Eligibility requirements for adding and managing users

Review eligibility requirements and considerations for adding and managing user accounts on your store or organization.

Considerations for user limitations

Review the following considerations for adding users to your store or organization:

• Users are available only on the Shopify plan and higher.
  • If your store is on either the Basic Shopify or Shopify Starter plan and require the ability to add users, then you'll need to upgrade to a higher plan such as Shopify, Advanced Shopify, or Shopify Plus.
• The number of users that you can add depends on the pricing plan that your store is on, with the following exceptions:
  • The store owner isn't counted towards the user limits.
  • Collaborators don't count towards the user limit.
• When downgrading your plan to one with a lower user limit, users over the limit for your new plan will be suspended in the following order:
  1. Pending users, starting with the most recently invited user.
  2. Active users based on their last login date, starting with those who have been inactive for the longest period.

User account types

You can also add collaborator accounts for Shopify Partners to work on your store and use permissions to control what sections of your store they can access.

Maximum number of users on each plan

The maximum number of users that you can have in addition to the store owner depends on your store's pricing plan.

Eligibility requirements for managing users

Note

If your store hasn't been migrated to the role-based access control, then the store owner, organization owner, or users with Users permissions can manage users from the Users and permissions page of your Shopify admin settings.

Only following user types and user roles can manage users and roles:

• For single stores not on the Shopify Plus plan, the following user roles can manage users:
  • Store owner
  • Administrator role
• For organizations or for a store on the Shopify Plus plan, then the following user roles can view and grant access requests:
  • Organization owner
  • Store owner
  • Organization administrator role
  • Store user administrator role

For stores on the Shopify Plus plan and for organizations, the Store owner and Store user administrator roles can manage users only for the store that they own or stores that they're assigned to. Learn more about the different permissions for administrator roles for organizations.
