Buying a domain through Shopify

When you buy your domain through Shopify, the DNS settings will be configured for you. Custom domains purchased through Shopify start at $13 USD per year. Domain prices vary, so make sure that you check out the prices for the available domains.

By default, the Shopify account owner's email and information is used to purchase and renew domains. Make sure your email is up to date so that you receive notifications about your domain subscription.

To buy a custom domain through Shopify:

  1. Click Buy new domain in the header:

  2. In the dialog box, enter the domain name you'd like to buy:

  3. Select an available extension from the list (for example .com, .ca). Each extension's price is listed:

    Buy select tld new
  4. Review your domain purchase summary. The option to auto-renew your domain is checked by default. If you don't want your domain to auto-renew, uncheck the box:

    Domain auto renew
  5. After you read the ICANN policy and Domain Registration Agreement, click Buy domain to complete your purchase:

    Register domain new

You will receive an email from Shopify confirming your purchase. It might take up to 48 hours for your new domain to start working.

After you've purchased your domain, you can select a primary domain (the domain name that customers will see in the address bar while they browse your online store).

Shopify doesn't provide email hosting, but you can set up email forwarding from the domain that you've purchased.
