Set up your domain with GoDaddy
If you've bought a domain from GoDaddy, you must reconfigure your DNS settings to point the domain to your Shopify-hosted storefront. You can set up your domain automatically using GoDaddy Connect, or set it up manually by changing the DNS settings in your GoDaddy admin.
If you experience problems with your domain not working, then you might need to contact GoDaddy support to have them remove the old IP address from your Information A Record.
Set up your domain automatically with GoDaddy Connect
You can automatically connect your GoDaddy domain to your Shopify store using GoDaddy Connect. If you connect your GoDaddy domain automatically, then you won't need to manually change your DNS settings to point to your Shopify store.
To set up your domain using GoDaddy Connect:
From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Domains (or press
Click Add existing domain:
Enter your root domain in the text field:
Click Add domain.
Click Connect with GoDaddy:
In the Sign In window, log in to your GoDaddy account:
Your GoDaddy domain is now connected to your Shopify store.
If you experience problems setting up your domain automatically, try setting it up manually.
Set up your GoDaddy domain manually
First, you will have to add your domain in your Shopify admin.
After you've added your domain and set it up with your third-party provider, it can take up to 48 hours for changes to take effect. You can check the status of your domains on the Domains page in your Shopify admin.
To set up your domain with GoDaddy manually:
In the DOMAINS section, click Manage.
Click the name of the domain you want to manage:
On the Domain Details page, click DNS Zone File:
Locate the A (Host) section and click the Edit Record icon in the @ host row:
Enter Shopify's IP address: 126.96.36.199 in the Points to text box:
Locate the CName (Alias) section and click the Edit Record icon in the www host row:
Enter YourStoreName.myshopify.com (replace YourStoreName with your actual
.myshopify.comstore name) in the Points to text box:
In the Zone File Section, click Save Changes:
If you are not able to edit your DNS records from within your domain provider's admin, you've probably pointed your domain's nameservers to a third party. To resolve this issue, you must contact your domain provider to have them point your domain's nameservers to their default nameservers.
