Buying a domain through Shopify
When you buy your custom domain through Shopify, the DNS settings will be configured for you. Custom domains purchased through Shopify start at $13 USD per year. Domain prices vary, so make sure that you check out the prices for the available domains.
It can take up to 24 hours for your domain to be activated.
To help you understand some of the terminology, we’ve provided you with definitions of common terms that you might encounter in this section:
A root domain is the domain name that you purchase from your domain provider. It does not contain a prefix, such as
www., but has a top-level domain (TLD) extension like
.net. An example of a root domain is

A subdomain is a subset of your root domain that you see as a prefix to your root domain. For example, in the URL
shopify.com is the root domain and
help. is the subdomain. You can use subdomains to organize your website and make it easier for visitors to find the information that they're looking for.
To buy a custom domain through Shopify:
From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Domains (or press
Click Buy new domain in the header.
In the dialog box, enter the domain name you'd like to purchase.
In the drop-down menu, pick an extension (for example
.ca). Each extension's price will be listed in the drop-down menu.
Click Check availability. If your selected domain is not available, you will need to choose another domain name.
After you read the ICAAN policy and Domain Registration Agreement, check off the box next to I have read and agree to the ICAAN policy and Domain Registration Agreement to continue:
By default, the Shopify account owner's email and information is used for the purchase.
Click Buy domain to complete the process.
You will receive an email from Shopify confirming your purchase. It might take up to 48 hours to for your new domain to start working.
If you need to update your domain contact information, or require advanced DNS configuration, you can manage your domain from manage.opensrs.net. In these situations, contact Shopify Support to have your domain credentials sent to you.
After you've purchased your domain, you can select a primary domain (the domain name that customers will see in the address bar while they browse your online store).
You can set up auto-renewal to make sure that you don't lose ownership of your domain.
Since Shopify doesn't provide email hosting, you can set up email forwarding from the domain that you've purchased.
