Display important information on the checkout page

On the checkout page, customers enter their shipping and payment information, and complete their purchase. Merchants who sell in Germany often display links to the following information on their checkout page:

  • Imprint, Impressum, or legal notice, which displays information about your company (such as its name, address, and contact details)
  • Terms of service
  • Refund policy
  • Shipping policy
  • Tax information, such as VAT

Add policies to your checkout page

Your store's terms of service, refund policy, shipping policy, and imprint or legal notice can be stored directly in the Policies page of your Shopify admin. Saved policies are automatically linked in the footer of your checkout.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Policies.
  2. Enter text in each of the appropriate policy boxes that you want to display in your checkout. If the option is available in your default language, then click Create from template and customize the content to meet your needs:
    • Add your refund policy to the Written return and refund policy box.
    • Add your terms of service to the Terms of service box.
    • Add your shipping policy to the Shipping policy box.
    • Add your imprint or legal notice to the Contact information box.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Optional: If your default language is a language other than German, then provide a translation for your policy content for a more localized experience. Learn more about managing languages and the Translate & Adapt app.

Require a confirmation step during checkout

During checkout, you can require a confirmation step to give your customers a chance to review their order details. You can also add a custom message to confirm that your customer has read and agreed to your policies during the confirmation step.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Checkout.
  2. In the Order processing section, check Require a confirmation step.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Navigate to Online store > Themes.
  5. Beside your current theme name, click ... > Edit default theme content.

By completing your order, you agree to our {{ terms_of_service }}, {{ refund_policy }}, {{ shipping_policy }}, and have viewed our {{ contact_information }}.
  1. Click Save.
  2. Optional: If your default language is a language other than German, then provide a translation for your checkout text for a more localized experience. Learn more about managing languages and the Translate & Adapt app.
