Adding links to collections and making them available to sales channels

When you create a new collection, you need to make sure that customers can find it. You can do this in the following ways:

  • Add a link for the collection in the navigation for your online store.
  • Make a collection available to the sales channels where you sell.
  • Edit the search engine listing for a collection to encourage customers to click its link in search results.

Links help customers find their way around your online store. If you've added a new collection, then you need to add a link in the navigation for your online store:

You can also create a new drop-down menu in your online store navigation with a link to a collection.

To link to a collection from an existing menu:

  1. On the Navigation page, click the name of the menu that you want to add the link to.

  2. In the Menu items section, click Add menu item.

  3. In the Name field, enter the name of the collection. This will be displayed to customers.

  4. In the Link list, select Collection, and then select the collection that you're adding a link for.

  5. Click Add.

  6. Click Save menu.

Change the availability of a collection

You can publish or hide a collection from your active sales channels by changing the collection's availability settings. There are a few reasons that you might want to hide a collection:

  • It's a collection of seasonal or sale products that you want to make available for only part of the year.
  • You want to sell only one type of product with a particular sales channel.
  • The products in the collection don't meet the eligibility requirements for a particular sales channel.

To view or change a collection's availability settings:

Change the publish date of a collection

You can set a specific publishing date for a collection to become available in your online store:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection.

  3. In the Sales channels section, click the calendar icon beside Online Store:

  4. Set the date and time that you want to publish the collection.

  5. Click Save.

Edit the search engine listing for a collection

The search engine listing is displayed in search engine results. It's generated automatically based on the collection's title and description. You can change the page title and description in the search engine listing to improve search engine optimization (SEO) and encourage customers to click search results. Don't change the URL and handle, because they are used to link the collection to your online store. To learn more about SEO, see Improving search engine optimization (SEO).

Editing the search engine listing doesn't change the way your collection displays in your online store.

To edit the search engine information for your collection:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click the collection.

  3. In the Search engine listing preview section, click Edit website SEO.

  4. Enter the page title and meta description that you want to appear in search engine results.

  5. Click Save.
