Building product collections

You can group your products into collections to make it easier for customers to find them by category. Here are a few examples of collections that you might create:

  • clothes for men, women, or children
  • items of a certain type, such as lamps, cushions, or rugs
  • items on sale
  • items in a certain size or color
  • seasonal products such as holiday cards and decorations

When you create a collection, it displays in your online store like a webpage with a gallery of the products that you've added to it. Customers can click a product image on the collection page to visit that product's page. When you're organizing your online store, you can help your customers find your product collections by adding links to them in a menu in your store's navigation:

You can view, create, and edit collections from the Collections area of Shopify.

Collection types

You can create two types of collections in Shopify: automated collections and manual collections.

An automated collection uses selection conditions to automatically include matching products. You can define as many selection conditions as you want, and you can also specify whether products must meet all conditions or any condition to be included in the collection. When you add a new product that matches the selection conditions for a collection, it will be automatically added to the collection.

A manual collection includes the products you add. The collection always contains the same products unless you add or remove them.
