Modify gift card settings

Change your gift card expiry settings

Gift cards can be set to expire after a specified amount of time from the issue date. By default, gift cards do not expire, as only some countries allow gift cards to expire for legal reasons. Make sure you are in accordance with any rules and regulations your country may have with regards to gift cards.

To change your gift card expiry settings:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings, and then click Gift Cards.

  2. In the Auto-expiration section, click the radio button to set your gift cards to expire:

  3. Using the text field and the drop-down menu, set the expiration details for your gift cards.

  4. Click Save.

Update automatic fulfillment settings of gift cards

By default, gift cards will be automatically fulfilled and notification emails will be sent to customers when an order has been paid.

To change fulfillment settings:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings, then click Checkout.

  2. In the Order Processing section, find After an order has been paid.

  3. Choose the fulfillment settings you prefer:

  4. Click Save.

If a gift card is purchased on a medium or high risk order, gift cards will not be fulfilled automatically. After you determine it is safe to proceed with the order, you must fulfill the gift cards manually from the order detail page.
