In-app hardware configuration for Shopify POS stores

Note

The hardware settings are available only in Shopify POS for iPad.

If you're using Shopify POS with the retail package, then the Hardware settings screen shows you the hardware that's currently available to your Shopify POS system.

Access the Hardware settings

To access the Hardware settings screen, tap Hardware from the Settings screen:

  1. Go to the Shopify POS Settings screen on your iPad.

  2. Tap Hardware to access the hardware settings.

  3. Tap Setup guide.

If you're using Shopify POS with retail package, then you can see the hardware that's currently present on your network:

  1. Go to the Shopify POS Settings screen on your iPad.

  2. Tap Hardware to access the hardware settings.

The Shopify POS Hardware settings screen shows all the hardware that's been detected on your network:

Set a printer as the default for receipt printing

If you have more than one receipt printer connected, then you can choose one as the default.

To set a printer as the default for receipt printing:

  1. Go to the Shopify POS Settings screen on your iPad.

  2. Tap Hardware to access the hardware settings.

  3. Tap on the printer you want to set as the default.

  4. Set this printer as the default by tapping its toggle button:

After you've set up your receipt printer, a brief diagnostic report prints. After this, you should print a test receipt to confirm that everything is working:

  1. Go to the Shopify POS Settings screen on your iPad.

  2. Tap Hardware to access the hardware settings.

  3. Tap on the printer you want to test (it must be already connected).

  4. Tap Print a test receipt:

    Your printer should produce a test receipt (make sure that it's loaded with paper).

Note

You can also press the FEED button on the front of the supported Star Micronics receipt printers to print a test receipt. If paper is loaded, a test receipt should print.

Test the connection to the cash drawer

When you've set up your receipt printer and your cash drawer, you can check that the connection between them is working:

  1. Go to the Shopify POS Settings screen on your iPad.

  2. Tap Hardware to access the hardware settings.

  3. Tap on the printer you want to test (it must already be connected).

  4. Tap Test cash drawer:

    The cash drawer should open.
