Customizing receipts

You can customize the template for your printed receipts and choose how many receipts you want to print by default. You can't edit the transaction information on printed receipts.

If you have staff with POS PINs, then you can remove their access to the receipt customization settings by selecting the Limited permissions option from your Staff settings screen.

This guide applies only to physical receipts from Retail POS sales. If you want to edit your email and SMS receipts for POS, then go to the Notifications settings of your Shopify admin, and edit the POS and mobile receipt template.

You can add a logo to your receipts from your in the Point of Sale channel. You can add the same logo to your receipts for all of your POS locations, or upload a separate logo for each location.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Point of sale.

  3. Click Open sales channel.

  4. Click Settings > Printed receipts.

  5. Under Receipt settings, choose the POS location from the drop-down menu that you want to add a logo for.

  6. Click Logo Upload, and then click Add image to upload a 400 px by 200 px logo image file.

  7. Optional: Choose a logo width from the drop-down menu.

  8. Click Save, and then do one of the following:

    • If you want to use the logo on all of your retail location receipts, then click Save for all retail locations.
    • If you want to use the logo only for the location you selected, then click Save for this location only.

You can include store information, such as your return policy or store hours, in the header and footer of your receipts.

Point of Sale channel steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.
  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Point of Sale.
  3. Click Open sales channel.
  4. Click Settings > Printed receipts.
  5. On the Receipt settings page, do either of the following:
    • Click Header text to add a custom header to your receipts.
    • Click Footer text to add a customer footer to your receipts.
  6. Enter your custom text, and then click Save.

Shopify POS app steps:

  1. From the Shopify POS app, tap and then tap Settings.
  2. Tap Printed receipts.
  3. On the Printed receipts page, do any of the following:
    • Tap Add header text to add a custom header to your receipts.
    • Tap Add footer text to add a custom footer to your receipts.
  4. Enter your custom text, and then tap Save.

Add custom information to your receipts

You can customize your receipts by choosing the information that you want included on them. For example, you can include a receipt barcode that when scanned with a 1D or 2D barcode scanner or your device's camera, the matching order is opened in Shopify POS.

You can customize your receipts from your Shopify admin in the Point of Sale channel, or from the Shopify POS app. If you want to make changes to all of your locations at once, then you need to make your changes from your Shopify admin in the Point of Sale channel.

Point of Sale channel steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.
  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Point of Sale.
  3. Click Open sales channel.
  4. Click Settings > Printed receipts.
  5. On the Receipt settings page, click the checkbox next to any of the following details that you want to show on your receipts:
    • Show a different logo per location
    • Show location address
    • Show location phone number
    • Show total sales box
    • Show SKU
    • Show compare at price
    • Show discount code
    • Show staff attributed to sale
    • Show staff at register
    • Show order note
    • Show customer information
    • Show 1D or 2D barcode
    • Show custom QR code
  6. Click Save.

Shopify POS app steps:

  1. From the Shopify POS app, tap and then tap Settings.
  2. Tap Printed receipts.
  3. On the Printed receipts page, toggle on any of the following details that you want included on your receipts:
    • Show location address
    • Show location phone number
    • Show total sales box
    • Show SKU
    • Show compare at price
    • Show discount code
    • Show staff attributed to sale
    • Show staff at register
    • Show order note
    • Show customer information
    • Show 1D or 2D barcode
    • Show custom QR code

Set a default number of receipt copies to print after a transaction

You can choose to have a default number of receipts printed following each successful transaction.

Point of Sale channel steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.
  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Point of Sale.
  3. Click Open sales channel.
  4. Click Settings > Printed receipts.
  5. On the Receipt settings page, click Number of receipts printed.
  6. Enter your custom whole number, and then click Save.

Shopify POS app steps:

  1. From the Shopify POS app, tap and then tap Settings.
  2. Tap Printed receipts.
  3. On the Printed receipts screen, under the Printing Options header, tap Number of receipts printed.
  4. Enter your custom whole number, and then tap Save.
