Making a refund to a gift card on Shopify POS (iPad only)

If a customer used a gift card to make a purchase and then wants to return the item for a refund, you can make the refund to the same Gift Card and its balance will be automatically updated.

Making a full refund to a gift card on Shopify POS

  1. From the Orders screen on your iPad, find the order for the customer's purchase. The order will show that the item was paid for using a gift card:

  2. Tap Refund.

  3. You'll see the REFUND TOTAL at the bottom of the screen. Tap Done to open the Refund Amount dialog:

  4. The Refund Amount dialog allows you to split your refund total between the gift card and a store credit. Do one of the following:

    • tap Confirm to apply the full refund amount to the gift card
    • tap the Add Store Credit line and enter the values you want to allocate to the gift card and the store credit, up to the value of the total refund (tap in a box to activate the keypad).

    The Remaining to Refund line must read zero before you can continue:

  5. Tap Confirm.

  6. Tap Process to begin processing your refund (you'll be asked to do this twice if you split the refund between the gift card and store credit):

  7. When the refund has been fully processed, you'll see a Refund Successful message:

  8. Tap Done to return to the order history screen. You'll see that the order history has been updated to show the refund:

Making a partial refund to a gift card on Shopify POS

  1. From the Orders screen on your iPad, find the order for the customer's purchase. The order will show that the item was paid for using a gift card:

  2. Tap Refund and then Edit, and set the total amount that you want to refund. For example, this screen shows that the total refund amount has been set to $14.50:

  3. Tap Done. The screen shows the amended REFUND TOTAL:

  4. Tap Done to continue.

  5. The Refund Amount dialog gives you the opportunity to split your refund total between the gift card and a store credit. Do one of the following:

    • tap Confirm to apply the full refund amount to the gift card
    • tap the Add Store Credit line and enter the values you want to allocate to the gift card and the store credit, up to the value of the total refund (tap in a box to activate the keypad).

      Caution

      Store credit is not attached to a customer account or issued as a receipt. If you want to offer store credit that a customer can put towards a purchase at a later date, you should refund to the gift card.

      The Remaining to Refund line must read zero before you can continue:

  6. Tap Confirm.

  7. Tap Process to begin processing your refund (you'll be asked to do this twice if you split the refund between the Gift Card and store credit):

  8. When the refund has been fully processed, you'll see a Refund Successful message:

  9. Tap Done to return to the order history screen:

You'll see that the order history has been updated to show the amount refunded. The Refund button remains active in case you need to make another partial refund.
