Updating an order

You can add notes or update customers for existing orders.

Add a note to an order

Order notes display on an order's details screen, and they're useful for attaching additional information about an order. You might want to attach a note to an order for the following reasons:

  • You’ve refunded or canceled the order.
  • You’ve done an exchange for all or part of the order.
  • Your customer has some additional requirements that you want to record.
  1. From the Shopify POS app, tap the button and then tap Orders.
  2. Tap an order to view its details screen and then tap Add note.
  3. Enter your note and then tap Save.

The note displays on the order details screen. You can edit the note by tapping Edit beside ORDER NOTES.

Add, delete, or change the customer for an order

You can adjust the customer information on a POS order.

To change the customer on an order, you need to delete the current customer and then add the correct customer.

You can also edit information about the customer by tapping the customer's name.

Steps:

  1. From the Shopify POS app, tap the button and then tap Orders.
  2. Tap an order to view its details screen.
  3. Adjust the order as needed by doing any of the following:
    • Add a customer - First, delete any existing customer on the order, and then tap either Add customer and search for an existing customer, or Add new customer and fill in the contact information.
    • Delete a customer - Swipe left on the customer's name, and then tap Remove.
    • Edit a customer - Tap the customer's name, edit their details, and then tap Save.

Cancel an order

If an order can be canceled, then the cancel order button displays for up to 15 minutes after the order is placed. After 15 minutes, the transactions process and capture funds. Only orders in an Authorized state can be canceled. Transaction fees don't apply to canceled orders.

The following restrictions apply to canceling orders:

  • Canceling orders isn't available in Australia, Canada, Germany or Italy
  • Split payment orders can't be canceled
  • Orders that use the following payment methods can't be canceled:

  1. You can cancel an order from the checkout or from the Orders screen:
    • From the checkout, tap Cancel order.
    • From the home screen of the Shopify POS app, tap Orders, tap the order you want to cancel, and then tap Cancel.
  2. Optional: If you don't want to return an item to your inventory, then tap the button to Restock all items at this location, and then tap Don't restock.
  3. Tap Next.
  4. Select a reason for canceling the order.
  5. Tap Confirm and process. If you have manager approval activated and aren't the manager, then the manager must enter a PIN and then tap the arrow button to confirm the cancellation.
