Activate shipping with Fedex


This feature requires that your store is on the Advanced Shopify plan, is on the Shopify Plus plan, or has the calculated shipping plan upgrade.

You'll need an account with FedEx before you can activate this carrier service on your Shopify store.


If your Shopify account is frozen at any time, your carriers might become deactivated. Check your shipping settings as soon as your account is restored.

Register for an account with FedEx


If you've negotiated a discounted rate with FedEx, then you can enter your account number when you activate your FedEx service so that the discounted rate appears to your customers at checkout.

  1. Visit the FedEx website and click the country where your store is located.

  2. Click Register Now:

  3. Click Open an account:

  4. Fill in the pages of the form as required, clicking Continue to move on to the next page. You can create your own User ID and password.


    Each of your passwords should be unique. Don't use the same password for more than one account, even if the accounts are related.

    At the bottom of page 1 of the form, you are asked to confirm which type of account you need. Make sure you select Open a FedEx account:

During the initial setup process with FedEx, you should make a careful note of:

  • the account number that you are assigned
  • your billing address exactly as you state it in the form.

You will need to re-enter this information later and the details must match exactly.


If you have any problems with this stage of the FedEx setup, you must contact FedEx directly.

Obtain your FedEx credentials


You need an account with Fedex before you can access their web services and get your credentials.

  1. Open a new browser tab and navigate to FedEx Web Services.

  2. You want to click the Register Now button to get a developer account. Keep in mind that it might appear slightly differently depending on your region, but it should look something like this:

  3. Complete the registration process.

  4. Click back to

  5. This time, click FedEx Web Services and then click Move to Production:

  6. This will bring you to a new screen where you can click Get Production Key:

  7. Fill out your credentials on the next page (including your account number from Part 1). Continue clicking through to receive your Authentication Key and Meter Number.


    Your Meter Number will be emailed to you by FedEx, but the authentication key will not. Make sure that you record your authentication key before proceeding.

  8. Now, check the email address you provided during registration for an email from FedEx. It will contain a copy of your:

  9. Production Password

  10. Meter Number

  11. FedEx Account Number.


If you have any problems with your FedEx setup, you must contact FedEx directly. Shopify cannot get your FedEx credentials for you, or provide support for your FedEx account.

Activate calculated shipping for FedEx


Before you can activate calculated shipping for FedEx, you must:

To activate calculated shipping for FedEx:

  1. In the Custom carrier accounts section, click Add carrier account* or **Manage carriers.

  2. Click Add carrier beside FedEx.

  3. Enter your FedEx credentials (copy and paste them if you can, to avoid mistakes).

  4. Click Save:
