Managing your billing method

Your invoices are paid using your active billing method. Available billing methods include credit card and verified bank account.

Verified bank accounts are available only to Shopify Plus merchants in the United States.

Update your billing information

Your billing information includes your credit card number and your billing address. If you need to update your billing information, then you can access it from the Settings menu in your admin.

Change your credit card details

If your credit card number changes, then make sure that you update it in your Shopify account.

To update your credit card details:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings, then click Billing.

  2. In the Billing information section, click Replace credit card.

  3. Update the credit card information, then click Confirm.

Note

Due to the way some banks implement Visa debit, some cards might not work for Shopify billing.

Change your billing address

To update your account billing address:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings, then click Billing.

  2. In the Billing information section, click Replace credit card.

  3. Update the billing address information fields and click Confirm.

Add a bank account to pay for your invoices

If you are based in the United States, are on a Shopify Plus plan, and have a USD bank account that accepts Automated Clearing House (ACH) debits, then you can verify your account to serve as your active payment method. Check with your bank to see if your account accepts ACH debits.

Verified bank accounts are available to Shopify Plus plans only.

To add a verified bank account to pay for your invoices:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings, then click Billing.

  2. In the Billing information section, click Add bank account.

  3. Enter the account and routing numbers for the bank account you want to verify.

  4. Enter the account owner's name, and designate the account type as Personal or Business.

  5. Click Start verification.

    Note

    By clicking Start verification, you authorize Shopify or its agents to deposit and withdraw money from your bank account using the Automated Clearing House network (ACH) to verify your account and pay your invoices.

  6. After 1-3 business days, Shopify will deposit two small amounts (less than $1.00) to your bank account. After these deposits are made to your account, confirm the two amounts by entering them in the two fields that appear in the Billing information section.

  7. If you want to make the verified account your active payment method, then check the box titled Make this bank account my active payment method.

  8. Click Finish verification. If verification is successful, then the bank account will show as Active.

If verification fails, then you will receive a message stating that verification for your bank account was unsuccessful. Contact your bank to learn more before trying again.
