Adding and deleting staff accounts

As the account owner, you can create individual accounts that other staff members can use to log in to the Shopify admin.

After you create a staff account, you can also set permissions and control what parts of the admin each staff member can access.

Note

For Shopify POS, you can create POS-only staff PINs that do not give staff access to your Shopify admin. Staff accounts created in your Shopify admin must have full access to be used to log in to Shopify POS as well as your Shopify admin.

Add a new staff account

As the account owner, you can create a new staff account by sending an invitation to a staff member.

To add a new staff account:

  1. Log in as the account owner.

  1. In the Staff accounts section, click Add staff account:

  2. Enter a first name, a last name, and an email address for the new staff member:

    Note

    The staff member will automatically have full access to your admin. You can uncheck the This staff account will have full permissions checkbox to restrict this staff member's permissions for accessing areas of the admin.

  3. Click Send invite when you're done.

An email invitation to create an account will be sent to the new staff member.

When your staff member receives an email invitation to open a staff account for your Shopify store, they must:

  1. Click the link in the invitation email to accept the invitation.

  2. On the staff account setup page, complete the form with their information:

    • Email address
    • First name and last name
    • Phone number (optional)
    • Password

  3. Click Create account to complete the account setup.

The staff member can now log in to the Shopify admin using their email address and password. They can also edit the details for their account at any time.

Remove a staff account

As the account owner, you can remove a staff account. You can deactivate an account or you can delete a staff account permanently.

Deactivate a staff account

You can deactivate a staff account to revoke the account's access to your store. You will have the option to reactivate the account at any time.

To deactivate a staff account:

  1. Log in as the account owner.

  1. In the Staff accounts section, click the staff member's name:

  2. In the Remove account section, click Deactivate staff account to revoke the account's access to your store:

  3. In the confirmation dialog, click Deactivate:

    Click deactivate

The staff member will no longer appear in the staff members list on your Account page or have access to your store. You can reactivate this account at any time.

To reactivate the account:

  1. Log in as the account owner.

  1. In the Staff accounts section, click Show deactivated accounts:

    Click show deactivated accounts
  2. Click the name of the deactivated staff account:

    Click deactivated staff name
  3. In the Remove account section, click Activate staff account:

    Click activate staff account

You will now see this staff member with the other accounts in the Staff accounts section.

Delete a staff account

You can permanently remove a staff account from your store.

To delete a staff account:

  1. Log in as the account owner.

  1. In the Staff accounts section, click the staff member's name:

    Click staff member name
  2. In the Remove account section, click Delete staff account to permanently remove the account from your store:

    Click delete staff account
  3. In the confirmation dialog, click Delete:

    Click delete

The staff member will be permanently removed from your store and no longer appear in the staff members list on your Account page or have access to your store.
