Shopify Partners glossary

Here are some common terms you might hear as a member of the Shopify Partner Program.

App store registration fee

To take advantage of the new revenue share program, Partners must complete the registration and pay a one-time $19 USD registration fee. The fee is waived for Partner Accounts that were created before August 1, 2021. Registration and fee payment isn't required if you're only developing private or custom apps.

Associated Developer Account

Any Partner Account that an App Developer or Associated Developer has registered through the Shopify Developer program page. An Associated Developer Account includes all accounts, such as the following:

  • staff accounts
  • test accounts
  • accounts with unpublished, custom, or draft apps
  • accounts with or without app activity

Collaborator account

Collaborator Accounts allow you to request access to a client's Shopify store directly from your Partner Dashboard. These accounts provide a simpler and safer way for you to gain access to, and work on, your clients’ existing Shopify stores.

Dev store

As a Shopify Partner, you can create dev stores for building apps and themes. Create dev stores on the Dev stores page of your Dev Dashboard.

Client transfer store

As a Shopify Partner, you can create client transfer stores as the first step to signing up clients for Shopify. Create client transfer stores on the Stores page of your Partner Dashboard. This type of referral is the only way to earn a recurring commission. To learn more about the amount that you're eligible to receive, refer to Client transfer store referrals.

Client transfer store referral

When you create a client transfer store within your Partner Dashboard and transfer your client onto a paid plan, you'll earn a portion of their monthly subscription fee for as long as they remain a Shopify customer. To learn more about the amount that you're eligible to receive, refer to Client transfer store referrals.

You can track your client transfer store referrals in your Partner Dashboard.

Partner Dashboard

Your Partner Dashboard is the best place to keep in sync with the apps, themes, and stores that you're building with Shopify. You can use it to track:

  • stores you're developing or managing for clients
  • revenue, installs, and other data for the apps, payment gateways, or themes you've published
  • payment schedules for your referrals and bounties

Shopify Support

Shopify Support can help you to navigate the Shopify Partner Program, resolve issues for your clients, and answer general questions regarding your Partner Account in order to help you grow your business with and through Shopify. You can contact Shopify Support by logging into your Partner Account from the Help Center, and then selecting either chat or email support. When you log in, you can select your Partner organization name for questions related to your Partner Account or a development store for questions related to stores.

Earnings

As a Shopify Partner, you earn money based on your contribution to the Shopify ecosystem (your activities) and the Partner program that you join. Your earnings might vary based on your location and the location of the merchants you work with. To learn more, refer to Shopify Partner earnings.
