Edit your password page

Before you launch your online store, customers will not be able to access your website to view your products. Instead, they will see your password page. The password page is a single page banner that gives customers information about the status of your store. You can customize your password page to suit your needs.

Enable or disable your password page

When you open an online store with Shopify, your password page is enabled by default. To enable or disable your password page:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Preferences.

  2. Scroll down to the Storefront password section.

  3. Check or uncheck Enable password page:

  4. Click Save.

Add a custom message for visitors

To add a custom message to your password page:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Preferences.

  2. Scroll down to the Storefront password section.

  3. Under Message for your visitors, enter your message:

View or change your password page settings

You can modify your store's password page by editing your theme settings on the Customize theme page. The settings that are available here vary from theme to theme.

To view or change your password page settings:

  1. Go to the Customize theme page.

  2. Add #/password to the end of the URL in your browser's address bar.

  3. Copy the modified URL and paste it into a new browser tab. When the page loads, you will see your password page in the theme preview, and the password page settings will be available in the theme editor:

  4. Click Header, Content, or Footer to access the different settings for your password page. Edit the settings to suit your needs.

  5. Click Save.

By default, some themes include a footer in the password page template.

To hide the password page footer:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Preferences.

  2. Scroll down to the Storefront Password section.

  3. Under Message for your visitors, paste the following code:

    <style>footer { display: none; }</style>
    
  4. Click Save.

Hide your store name

By default, your store name is included in the password page.

To hide your store name on the password page:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Preferences.

  2. Scroll down to the Storefront Password section.

  3. Under Message for your visitors, paste the following code:

    <style>h1 { display: none; }</style>
    
  4. Click Save.

Edit your password page code templates

For advanced customizations of the password page, you can edit your theme code. All Shopify themes include a password page template, which can be accessed on the Edit HTML/CSS page.

To access your password page template:

  1. Find the theme you want to edit, and then click Actions > Edit code.

  2. In the Templates directory, click password.liquid.

  3. In the password.liquid template, you will see Liquid tags that include the different sections that make up the password page. Your theme might include some or all of the following Liquid tags:

    {% section 'password-header' %}
    
    {% section 'password-content' %}
    
    {% section 'password-footer' %}
    
  4. To modify the content of any of the above sections, in the Sections directory, click one of the following:

    • password-header.liquid
    • password-content.liquid
    • password-footer.liquid
  5. Edit the code to suit your needs.

  6. Click Save.
