Change the appearance of your password page

You might want to customize your password page if your store isn't ready to launch yet.

There are two ways to customize the design of your password page: you can add a message for visitors, or you can use HTML and CSS to customize the password.liquid template.

Add a message for visitors

The default password page looks something like this:

You can add a message for your visitors without having any knowledge of HTML or CSS. For example, you might want to give information about when your store will launch, and any promotions you will be offering.

To add a message for your store's visitors:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Preferences (or press G S W).

  2. Scroll down to the Storefront password section.

  3. Under Message for your visitors, enter your message:

    Password page6
  4. Click Save.

Use HTML and CSS to customize the password page

For advanced customizations of the password page, you can edit your theme's password.liquid template. Like other .liquid templates, you can use HTML, CSS, Liquid, and Javascript to customize the design of the page.

Many themes already have a password.liquid template. If your theme doesn't have a password.liquid template, you can create a new one from your theme's Edit HTML/CSS page.

To check if your theme has a password.liquid template:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Themes (or press G W T).

  2. Find the theme you want to edit, click the ... button, and then click Edit HTML/CSS.

  3. Under Templates, click password.liquid.

The password.liquid template includes its own internal stylesheet, and you can customize the file like any other theme template:

  2. Find the theme you want to edit, click the ... button, and then click Edit HTML/CSS.
