Generating artifacts with AI in Tinker

You can use Tinker to generate high-quality image, text, and video assets, known as artifacts, using any of the AI tools available. You can select from any of the existing AI tools, or start creating from a blank template using any of the all-purpose AI generators.

Generate artifacts using an AI tool

You can generate artifacts using any of the AI tools available in the Tinker app. These AI tools come with preset fields to help you generate high-quality artifacts without requiring advanced AI prompting expertise.

Each AI tool contains fields for basic information and creative direction about the artifact that you want to generate. Depending on the tool, you might also have options to make more advanced and specific setting requests, such as specifying artifact file types or aspect ratios.

Steps:

  1. Launch the Tinker app on your mobile device.
  2. Select the AI tool that you want to use:
    • Tap Use on any tool listed on the Tinker homepage.
    • Swipe left to access a complete list of all available AI apps, and then tap the app that you want to use. Tap Use → to confirm.
  3. Based on the tool that you selected, provide the guidance the tool requires to create your final result, such as selecting or uploading an image asset, providing a written description, and selecting a preferred generation type.
  4. Optional: When available, tap Additional Settings to modify other settings for your generation, such as image file type or aspect ratios.
  5. Slide the → icon to the right to start generating.
  6. You can do any of the following options during generation:
    • To minimize the generation panel, tap Caret Down. Generation continues in the background. You can access the in-progress generation again from the Artifacts list.
    • To stop the generation, tap ■ > Stop.
    • To return to the AI tool, tap Duplicate. Your existing settings and prompt are preloaded.

After the artifact is generated, it displays in your Artifacts list. You can also continue refining the artifact.

Generate artifacts from a blank template

You can use any of the all-purpose image, video, or text generators available in Tinker, such as Google Gemini Image Generator, Kling Video Generator, and Anthropic Claude Text Generator, to generate artifacts based on a written description provided by you. You can also provide reference assets to help the tool understand what you want to create.

These all-purpose AI tools don't have specific pre-set directions embedded into their functionality, so be as specific and detailed as possible when describing the artifact that you want to generate. For example, the Product Lifestyle Shot tool already understands that the artifact needs to be a photorealistic image intended for commercial social media and marketing use, so you don't need to specify that context in the prompt when using that tool. However, the all-purpose Google Gemini Image Generator lacks that specific tool-based context, so you need to include the quality and intended purpose of the artifact in your prompt to help it generate the artifact in the style that you want.

Steps:

  1. Launch the Tinker app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Type to create.
  3. Select Image, Video, or Text based on the type of artifact that you want to generate.
  4. Tap the app menu to select which all-purpose AI app you want to use to generate the artifact.
  5. Based on the type of artifact that you selected, provide the required details for generating the artifact:
    • In the Prompt field, describe your idea in plain language, and then tap Check.
    • Optional: When applicable, provide reference photos or start and end frames.
    • Optional: When applicable, tap Additional Settings to set specific artifact details, such as aspect ratios or file types.
  6. Slide the → icon to the right to start generating.

Managing your artifacts

Tinker stores all of the assets that you upload and all generated results in the Artifacts screen. You can use this page to access the complete list of your original uploaded images as well as the generated results from any of Tinker's apps. From Tinker's homepage, access your Artifacts list in any of the following ways:

  • Swipe right from the Tinker homepage.
  • Tap the artifacts icons in the lower-left corner of the app. The icons display your 2 most recent artifacts.

Artifact options

You can tap any artifact to do any of the following actions:

  • For AI-generated images, tap VIEW ORIGINAL to compare the generated image with the original image.
  • To add the artifact to a project, tap Add to project and then select the project. An artifact can be added to 1 project at a time.
  • To refine the artifact, tap Edit and then write the changes that you want to make.
  • To duplicate the artifact's prompts, tap Duplicate. Generating a new artifact from duplicated prompts creates a remixed version of the artifact.
  • To share the artifact, tap > Share, and then select a messaging app or copy the link.
  • To download the artifact, tap > Download. The artifact is saved to your mobile device.
  • To access the artifact's version history, tap > Version History.
  • To report the content generated in the artifact, tap Report.
  • To delete the artifact, tap > Delete. To confirm, tap Delete.

Artifacts can't be renamed in the Tinker app. You can download the artifact to your mobile device and rename the file outside of the app.

Artifact tags in Tinker

Every generated artifact also contains a list of automatically-generated tags based on the contents of the artifact. The tags are generated by Tinker and can help you re-use artifacts in relevant contexts. For example, if you generate an artifact using your coffee mug product, then Tinker might apply the tags Product and Coffee mug to the image. If you decide to generate a new artifact using the Product Editorial app, then Tinker could display a list of your artifacts tagged with Product to help you quickly locate the relevant artifacts that you might want to use as a reference for the app.

You can't add, edit, or remove tags from your artifacts in Tinker.

Import a new artifact from your camera roll

You can import any image from your mobile device's camera roll to use as an artifact in Tinker. Tinker has access only to the photos that you upload to the app.

You can't rename an artifact after it's uploaded to Tinker.

Steps:

  1. Launch the Tinker app on your mobile device.
  2. Do any of the following options:
    • Open a project from the My Projects list, and then tap Add Artifact > Import from Camera Roll.
    • Start the process to generate an artifact using an AI tool, and then in the option to select a reference photo, tap Add Image to import a new image from your camera roll.
  3. Select the photo that you want to import as a new artifact.
  4. Tap Done.

Refining and restoring generated artifact versions with AI

You can refine any existing artifact generated by AI tools in Tinker. Every time that you generate a refined version of an existing artifact, the version is stored in the artifact's version history.

Refine or remix an artifact with AI

You can refine an artifact with AI. Refining helps you adjust and modify the creative direction of the artifact because you can explain how you want the artifact to be changed in your own words. You can review the different versions of a refined artifact in the artifact's version history.

You can also remix the artifact by duplicating an existing artifact's prompts and settings, and then regenerate from that duplicate's prompt which results in a slightly different iteration of the artifact. You can also refine the duplicate's prompts for more control over the final result of the remixed artifact. Remixed artifacts are saved as separate items in your Artifacts list.

Steps:

Refine existing artifact
  1. Launch the Tinker app on your mobile device.
  2. Open the artifact that you want to refine:
    • Generate a new artifact using any AI tool.
    • Tap an existing artifact from the Artifacts list.

  3. Tap Edit.
  4. In the What would you like to change? field, describe your suggested changes in plain language, and then tap Check.
  5. Slide the → icon to the right to generate a new version.

  4. Optional: Refine the existing settings and description based on the AI tool that you're using.
  5. Slide the → icon to the right to generate a new artifact.
