Options for paying bills on Shopify
There are different types of bills that you can pay directly through your Shopify admin, and each bill can have slightly different payment options:
- General bill payments: For general Shopify bills, such as paying for your subscription, you have multiple payment methods to choose from. These include credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, or American Express), co-branded debit cards, Shopify Balance, PayPal, ACH debits (for US-based stores on the Shopify Plus plan), or SEPA direct debit (for German stores on non-Plus plans). The available payment methods might vary depending on your region.
- Shopify Shipping billing: Shopify Shipping labels and label price adjustments are charged to the credit card that's on file for your Shopify account. All Shopify Shipping charges are billed in USD. If you're specifically referring to paying for Shopify Shipping label charges, then these are billed separately. The charges are based on threshold billing, and you can continue purchasing labels until you reach a certain threshold. If you don't reach the threshold within your billing cycle, then the shipping label charges will be added to your monthly Shopify subscription bill.
- Shopify Bill Pay: If you want to pay external business bills directly through your Shopify admin and your store is in the United States, then you can use Shopify Bill Pay. It provides flexibility in payment options and consolidates your finances in one place. You can pay vendors, business phone bills, freelancers. For domestic payments, you can pay any bill by bank transfer, business credit or debit card, or your Shopify Balance account.
Remember, the payment options for your Shopify bill depend on your specific requirements and the type of bill you're paying.

Payment methods for Shopify bills
The available payment methods for paying your Shopify bills depend on your region.
Credit cards and co-branded debit cards
You can pay your Shopify bills (one-time or recurring) using a valid credit card from Mastercard, Visa, or American Express. Ensure that your credit card allows recurring payments.
You can also use a co-branded debit card with international capabilities and set up for recurring transactions. If you're unsure about your co-branded debit card's capabilities, then contact the financial institution that issued the card for assistance.
Considerations for using credit cards and co-branded debit cards
Review the following considerations for using credit cards and co-branded debit cards in specific countries and regions:
- France: Use a credit card or a deferred debit card to pay for your Shopify subscription. If you're unsure about your card type, then contact your bank.
- India: RuPay cards can't be used to pay for Shopify bills.
- Brazil: Use an international Visa or Mastercard (branded as Internacional) instead of a national card.
Shopify Balance
If you have a Shopify Balance account, then you can use your Shopify Balance card as your preferred payment method for paying Shopify bills. No card details need to be entered.
PayPal
You can pay your Shopify bills (one-time or recurring) using PayPal. PayPal balance, bank accounts, debit cards, or credit cards associated with your PayPal account can be used for payment.
ACH debits
If you're based in the United States, your store is on the Shopify Plus plan, and have a USD bank account that accepts Automated Clearing House (ACH) debits, then you can verify your account as the primary payment method for Shopify bills. Contact your bank to confirm whether your account accepts ACH debits.
SEPA Direct Debit
For stores based in Germany or the Netherlands, on a non-Plus subscription plan, and using EUR as the billing currency, you can pay Shopify bills using Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) Direct Debit. No credit or debit card is required.
Shopify Shipping label charges
Shopify Shipping labels and label price adjustments are charged to the credit card that's on file for your Shopify account. All Shopify Shipping charges are billed in USD.
Shipping label charges are based on threshold billing. When you spend a certain amount on shipping labels within your billing cycle, you're invoiced and charged immediately. You can continue purchasing labels until you reach 10% of your current threshold while waiting for the payment to be processed. After the invoice is processed, your threshold is reset.
If you don't reach the threshold within your billing cycle, then the shipping label charges are added to your monthly Shopify subscription bill.

Shopify Bill Pay

Domestic payments using Shopify Bill Pay
For domestic payments, you can pay any bill using the following methods:
- Bank transfer
- Business credit or debit card
- Shopify Balance account
After payment, your vendor receives a bank transfer payment or a paper check in the mail.
International payments using Shopify Bill Pay
For international payments, you can pay bills in USD using a bank account or your Shopify Balance account. Your vendor is paid through a wire transfer.
Supported bill types using Shopify Bill Pay
You can use Shopify Bill Pay to pay various types of bills, including:
- Vendors
- Business phone bills
- Freelancers
- Any service that invoices your business
To simplify the bill payment process, you can provide your vendors with a unique email address to send bills directly to your Shopify Bill Pay. Bills can also be added manually or synced automatically with QuickBooks Online.
