Connect a third-party domain to Shopify for your customer account pages

Your customer account pages use your store's primary domain as their base domain. For example, if your primary domain is your-store.com, then your customer account subdomain is created as account.your-store.com. If you change your primary domain, then your customer account domain updates accordingly. To check or change your primary domain, go to Settings > Domains in your Shopify admin.

You can create a subdomain for customer accounts that uses your online store's primary domain and directs customers to their account pages. The domain name that you create is a subdomain of your primary domain name that you use for your store. The subdomain becomes the primary domain name for all customer account pages, providing a consistent branded experience from login through to account management. For example, if your subdomain is account.your-store.com, then customers will access the login page at account.your-store.com/authentication/login.

Before you begin

To add a domain for this procedure, you need to have the following information:

  • Your login information for your third-party domain provider account
  • Your domain provider's requirements

Step 1: Create the subdomain for your customer account pages

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Customer accounts.

  2. Go to Customer accounts > URLs, and then click Manage. The Change customer accounts domain dialog displays.

  3. In the Customer account domain field, enter a descriptive string that identifies the domain name as the one that is used for customer accounts. For example, if you enter the string account, then you create the following URL for your customer: account.your-store.com.

  4. Click Continue. You're taken to the Connect existing page in the Domains settings.

  5. To change your domain provider account settings, click Follow settings instructions. You're taken to your domain provider's website.

Step 2: Create a new CNAME record in your third-party domain provider account settings

  1. On your domain provider's website, log in to your account.
  2. Find the DNS settings or domain management area.
  3. Do the following.
  4. Create a new CNAME record.
  5. Change the Host name to the string that you created for your customer account subdomain name. For example, account.
  6. Point the CNAME record to shops.myshopify.com.
  7. Save your changes. You're returned to the Connect existing page in the Shopify admin.

Step 3: Verify that customer account domain is connected to Shopify

  1. On the Connect existing page, click Verify connection.
  2. After your customer account domain name is connected and verified, click Back to customer accounts. On the Customer accounts page, a Connected label is displayed in the Customer accounts field.

It might take up to 48 hours for your domain to be verified.
