Considerations for using a third-party domain for your online store

Before you connect your third-party domain to Shopify, review the following considerations for managing and getting support for your domain:

  • You can connect your third-party domain to Shopify but you manage your domain, including the DNS settings, renewals, and billing, in your third-party domain provider's account.
  • Shopify Support can't log in to your third-party domain account for you, even if you give your explicit permission.
  • If you need help with your third-party domain settings, then contact your third-party provider’s support team.
  • If you want to receive support for your domain settings from Shopify and manage all your domain settings directly in your Shopify admin, then you can transfer your third-party domain to Shopify.

You might also need to review the following technical considerations before connecting your third-party domain:

  • Using third-party proxies isn't supported on Shopify and can cause unexpected behavior or service disruptions for your store. Shopify isn't responsible for any loss of data or store outages due to unsupported configurations.
  • You don't need to use Certification Authority Authorization (CAA) records. However, if you're required to use them, then make sure that the following certificate authorities (CA) are added to each CAA record:
