Changing a domain target

You can change the target for a domain. Changing targets is only available for stores using Hydrogen custom storefronts.

A target can be assigned to the online store, or a to a Hydrogen storefront's production or custom environment.

Considerations for changing the target for a domain

Before you change the target for a domain, review the following considerations:

• Changing the target doesn't change the domain type. For example, if a domain's type was redirect before you changed the target, then it continues to be a redirect type afterwards.
• If you change the primary domain for a custom domain from one target to a different target, then the primary domain for the previous target reverts to the myshopify.com domain name. For example, if you change the target for johnsapparel.com from an online store to a custom storefront, then the primary domain name for the online store reverts to johnsapparel.myshopify.com.

Change a domain target

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Domains.
2. Click the domain whose target you want to change.
3. Click Change target.
4. From the Target list, select the name of the target.
5. If Hydrogen is selected, then do the following:
   1. From the Storefront list, select a storefront.
   2. From the Environment list, select an environment.
6. Click Save.

The domain now points to the target that you selected.
