Setting up recurring payments through Shopify Bill Pay

Using Shopify Bill Pay, you can automate your payments by setting up recurring payments for vendors or bills that you pay regularly.

Set up recurring payments

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finances > Bill Pay.
  2. Click Make a payment.
  3. When creating the payment, set the Payment frequency. Options include:
    • Weekly: Payments occur every week on the same day that you initiate the first payment.
    • Monthly: Payments occur every month on the same date as the first payment.
    • Annually: Payments are made annually on the same date as the first payment.
  4. In the Recurring payment duration section, select how long the payments should continue:
    • Until I decide to cancel: The payments continue indefinitely until you manually stop them.
    • Until a specified date: You will need to select both a start and an end date for the payments.
  5. Proceed with scheduling the payment as you typically would for a one-time payment.

Identifying recurring payments

Recurring payments are indicated with a Recurring label in the Status column, even after the payment is paid. Hovering over the label will display the payment frequency and the specific end condition that you've selected.

To view the details of a recurring payment, such as the payment’s frequency, end date, and number of payments, you can click the bill .

Managing recurring payments

You might need to adjust the details of your recurring payments due to changes in your financial setup or agreements with vendors.

Edit a recurring payment

Editing a recurring payment affects all future instances of that payment:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finances > Bill Pay.
  2. Click the bill and then click Edit all payments.
  3. In the Delivery details section, select a new deduction date.
  4. Click Update payment to save the changes.

Canceling a recurring payment

You can cancel individual recurring payments or all future recurring payments. Canceling a scheduled recurring payment is possible only before it starts processing. After a payment begins processing, it might not be possible to cancel it. If you need assistance after a payment starts processing, then you need to contact Shopify Support.

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finances > Bill Pay.
  2. Click the bill that you want to delete and then click Cancel.
  3. Select Cancel current payment or Cancel all payments from the dropdown list.
  4. Click Cancel payment or Cancel all payments to confirm your decision.
