Getting started with Shopify Credit – Eligibility, application, and account management

Shopify Credit is a business Visa charge card that requires full payment of the balance. Your Shopify Credit card is accepted by any merchant or business that allows Visa transactions, except for prohibited categories. Shopify Credit doesn't permit transactions equivalent to cash, such as cash advances, money orders, wire transfers, or gambling transactions.

Upon approval and account setup, you'll have immediate access to a virtual Shopify Credit card for your convenience. Additionally, you have the option to request a physical card, which will be delivered to you within 5-8 business days.

Check eligibility and apply for Shopify Credit

Eligibility for Shopify Credit is primarily based on several factors, including your business's performance rather than your personal credit score.

To determine if you're eligible for Shopify Credit, check your Shopify admin. If you're eligible, then you can apply for Shopify Credit.

Requirements for Shopify Credit

To use Shopify Credit, you need to meet the following minimum requirements:

  • You must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Shopify Payments must be set up or activated when signing up for Shopify Credit.
  • Only one account owner is permitted for Shopify Payments, and the business must be operated by a single owner. This requirement doesn't limit eligibility strictly to sole proprietorships. Multi-owner businesses can’t apply for Shopify Credit.
  • The store owner must have a physical personal address in the United States or Puerto Rico. Other United States territories aren't supported.
  • The store must be based in the United States or Puerto Rico. Other United States territories aren't supported.

These requirements aren't exhaustive and additional criteria may apply for eligibility.

If you apply for Shopify Credit or are currently using Shopify Credit, then you may also be eligible for Shopify Capital offers. However, if you’re currently using Shopify Capital or have an application in progress, then you’re ineligible to apply for Shopify Credit. Any existing Shopify Capital offers will be revoked upon your application for Shopify Credit. You’ll need to wait for a new offer from Shopify Capital before you can apply for funding.

Factors influencing eligibility and offers

Consequences of delinquency on Shopify Credit

If your Shopify Credit account becomes delinquent, you fail to pay your statement balance when due, or are otherwise in violation of the Shopify Credit Issuing Bank Terms or the Shopify Credit Program Terms, then you won't be eligible for Shopify Capital offers.
