Import orders using Marketplace Connect

You can set up your orders to automatically import from a marketplace to your Shopify admin, or you can manually import an order.

After an order is imported, the marketplace name appears in the Channel field on your Orders page.

Order import settings

Review the following table to understand the different order import settings that you can set up using Marketplace Connect.

Import orders whenPendingSyncs an order to your Shopify admin as soon as it's been placed, regardless of payment status.
CompleteOnly syncs an order to your Shopify admin after the customer has paid in full.
Tax handling for {marketplace} ordersWithhold taxAfter the marketplace collects and remits sales tax on your behalf for an order, the order is imported to Shopify excluding tax from the order details. If you select Withhold tax, then taxes don’t appear on your reporting for marketplace orders in Shopify, and you can instead find them on your marketplace reporting. This is the default option for tax handling on Marketplace Connect. Learn more about tax handling for each marketplace that you connect to.
Send taxAfter the marketplace collects and remits sales tax on your behalf for an order, the order is imported to Shopify including tax in the order details. If you select Send tax, then marketplace order taxes appear on your reporting in Shopify. Learn more about tax handling for each marketplace that you connect to.

Set up automatic order imports

You can set up automatic order imports in the Settings section of Marketplace Connect. If you're connected to multiple marketplaces, then repeat these steps for each marketplace that you want to manage order import settings for.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Apps and sales channels.
  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Marketplace Connect.
  3. Click Open app.
  4. Click Settings, and from the Listings drop-down menu, select the marketplace that you want to manage the settings for.
  5. In the Order import settings, select options for Import orders by order type, Import orders by fulfillment method, Import orders when, and Tax handling.
  6. Click Save.

Manually import an order

If an order wasn't automatically imported, then you can manually import an order from a marketplace to your Shopify admin.

Steps

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Apps and sales channels.
  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Marketplace Connect.
  3. Click Open app.
  4. Click Orders.
  5. On the order that you want to import, in the Import column, select Import.
  6. Click Save.

After you import an order from a marketplace, it appears in your Orders in the Shopify admin.

You can choose whether to withhold tax or send tax in your order import settings. You should review the tax handling information for each of the marketplaces that you connect to:
