Add an announcement bar

You can add an announcement bar to your online store to display important information about your business.

You might add an announcement bar to highlight the following information:

  • any shipping delays or regions not accepting international shipments
  • any new or updated policy pages
  • any promotions being offered at this time, such as sales or new gift cards

Some themes have a built-in announcement bar feature, while others require you to download an app to display an announcement bar.

Check if your theme has an announcement bar feature

To check if your theme has an announcement bar feature, use one of the following methods:

  • Go to Online Store > Themes, and then click Customize. If your theme has an announcement bar, then Announcement bar is displayed in the list of sections or within the "Header" settings.
  • Refer to your theme’s documentation. If you use a Shopify-supported theme, then refer to Free themes from Shopify.
  • Contact your theme developer. If you use a Shopify-supported theme, then contact Shopify Support.

If your theme has a built-in announcement bar feature, then follow your theme’s documentation to add it to your online store. If you’re using a Shopify-supported theme, then refer to Free themes from Shopify.

If your theme doesn’t have an announcement bar feature, or the built-in feature doesn’t have the settings that you want, then you can download a banner app.

Add an announcement bar

You can have only one announcement bar section in your theme, but you can add up to five blocks to the announcement bar section to add multiple announcement bars. Only announcement bar blocks can be added to the announcement bar section.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
  2. Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Customize.

  2. In the Sales channels section, tap Online Store.
  3. Tap Manage themes.
  4. Find the theme that you want to edit, and then tap Customize.
  5. Tap Edit.

  4. Find the theme that you want to edit, and then tap Customize.
  5. Tap Edit.
  1. Under Announcement bar, click Announcement.
  2. Enter your announcement text.
  3. Using the dropdown options, select a color from your theme settings.
  4. Optional: Click the Link field, and then do one of the following:
    • Enter a URL to direct your customers to a specific location.
    • Use the dropdown to select a page on your online store.
  5. Click Save.

You can stack announcement banners. Click Add announcement to add an additional announcement bar.

Edit an announcement bar

You can edit your announcement bar to change the text, color, or link at any time. If you have more than one announcement bar, then you can reorder the announcement bars by clicking and dragging the ⋮⋮ icon.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
  2. Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Customize.

  5. Tap Edit.

  1. Click the announcement bar that you want to edit, and then make your changes.
  2. Optional: Click and drag the ⋮⋮ icon to move the announcement bar into a different order.
  3. Click Save.

Hide or delete an announcement bar

You can hide or delete an announcement bar that you don't want to display on your online store. Hiding an announcement bar removes it from your online store without deleting it, and you can unhide it to display it on your online store again. Deleting an announcement bar is a permanent action that can't be undone.

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
  2. Find the theme that you want to edit, and then click Customize.

  5. Tap Edit.

  1. Click the Announcement bar toggle to display a list of your announcement bars.
  2. Remove the announcement bar by using one of the following methods:
    • To hide an announcement bar, hover your mouse pointer over the announcement block, and then click the eye icon.
    • To delete an announcement bar, click the announcement bar that you want to delete, and then click Remove block.
  3. Click Save.

Download an announcement banner app

  1. Go to the Shopify App Store.
  2. Search for an app using banner message or announcement bar.
  3. Click an app to display the app listing page.
  4. When you're satisfied with the app details, click Add app.

To add the banner to your store, follow the app's installation instructions and any documentation from the app’s developers.
