Forms app

The Forms app helps you engage with your online store customers and grow your email list. Using the Forms app, you can create a pop-up form that prompts your customers to join your marketing email list. The form can be customized to match your brand and capture customer information in a privacy-compliant way. You can also integrate a discount into the form and choose when when you want it to display. After you create a form, you can create automations, as well as view analytics such as conversion rates and customer segments.

Considerations for using the Forms app

Before you use the Forms app, review the following considerations:

  • You can have only one form active at a time.
  • You can't edit the text color. The text color depends on the contrast of the colors you select, and will be either black or white.
  • For the form to display on your store, you need to install the Forms theme app embed on your theme.

Create a form

  1. From the Forms app, click Create form.
  2. Configure the form based on your form setting preferences.
  3. Click Save.

Review the following settings for the Form app.

Teaser section

Setting Description
Heading The title of the teaser section for the form, where you can provide incentive or a call to action to join your newsletter. For example, Get 10% off, Sign up for [company name] news, or Sign Up Now. Maximum of 50 characters.
Visibility settings To display the teaser section to your customers, select Visible (recommended).
To bypass the teaser section and instead display the form directly, select Hidden.

Field Description
Heading The title of the form, where you can provide incentive or a call to action to join your newsletter. Maximum of 50 characters.
Text The text inputted will appear below the heading. In this field, consider offering an incentive for signing up, as well as keeping it simple. Maximum of 100 characters.
Input Email is required. You can also choose to collect a customer's first name, last name, or both by selecting the corresponding checkbox.
Submit Button The button should have a clear call to action. For example, Sign Up, Subscribe, Submit, or Get my discount. Maximum of 25 characters.
Disclaimer (optional) Your disclaimer can include information such as telling your customers that by submitting their email, they agree to receive marketing emails. For example, Sign up for email marketing from [company name]. Maximum of 100 characters.

Success section

This form appears after your customer has successfully signed up.

Field Description
Heading The title of the success section for the form, where you can provide confirmation that a customer has successfully signed up to your email list. For example, Here's your discount, VIP access starts now, or Thanks for signing up!. Maximum of 50 characters.
Text The body of the success section for the form, where you can provide more details or highlight the benefits of joining your email list. For example, You're now the first to know about the latest drops and special offers.

Styling section

You can update the styling of your form at any point before saving your form. A warning appears if you select colors that don't work well together, don't have enough contrast, or might be difficult to read.

In the Brand colors section of the forms app, you can find and select colors that you've added as brand colors.

Colors Change the color of the form's background, active field, button label, and error messages to match your brand and theme.
Positioning Select the positioning of where your form appears. For example, bottom left.
Form fields Select white or transparent.
Typography Choose the font that you want to use for your heading and body text.

Behavior section

You can update when and where your form will appear.

Setting Description
Pages Choose if you want the form to appear on all pages, or only specific pages.
Trigger You can choose to have the form display on the first, second, or third page view either immediately or after a 10 or 30 second delay. In this section, you can also choose to select the Show form when visitors attempt to leave page (Desktop only) checkbox. For example, the form will appear if a visitor moves their cursor towards the address bar.

Automations

The form that you create can integrate with existing marketing automations. You can connect to an existing automation, or create a new one. Learn more about creating marketing automations in Shopify.

Shop

The forms app is integrated with the Shop app. Customers using the Shop app can automatically apply discount codes they received through completing the form at checkout.
