Create a new data exploration
Creating a new data exploration is available to merchants on all Shopify plans. Using the new Shopify Analytics, you can create a custom report in the following ways:
- Build a custom report from an empty exploration state.
- Modify an existing default report.

Create a new custom report from an empty state
You can create a new report from any of the following places in the Shopify admin:
- In Analytics > Reports, click New exploration.
- When customizing the Analytics dashboard, click New exploration in the dashboard library.
Creating a new report begins an empty data exploration. You must add at least 1 metric to begin your data exploration.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Analytics > Reports.
Click New exploration.

Use any of the following tools to build your report:
- In the ShopifyQL query editor, write a query using ShopifyQL and then click ▹ Run.
- In the configuration panel, manually select your report data:
- In the Metrics menu, click ⊕ to add the first metric to your exploration.
- Add additional metrics, dimensions, a comparison, and filters to display the information that you want. You can also click the Visualization menu to select a different visualization for your data.
After you create your report, click Save.
Create a custom report by modifying an existing default report
If you modify a default report authored by Shopify, then it's considered a custom report.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Analytics > Reports.
Click the name of the default report that you want to customize.

Use any of the following tools to customize the report:
- In the ShopifyQL query editor, modify the existing query using ShopifyQL and then click ▹ Run.
- In the configuration panel, add or remove metrics, dimensions, a comparison, and filters to display the information that you want. You can also click the Visualization menu to select a different visualization for your data.
After you modify your report, click Save as.
In the Save copy as new report dialog, give your custom report a name, and then click Save copy.
