When you migrate from QuickBooks POS to Shopify POS, you can review how Shopify POS compares to QuickBooks POS and other POS solutions.

Intuit QuickBooks POS discontinuation

Intuit QuickBooks POS 19.0, including payments and connected services, was discontinued on October 3, 2023. Intuit has partnered with Shopify to provide a POS option that integrates with QuickBooks Desktop accounting software. QuickBooks Desktop accounting software will continue to operate as usual and isn't affected by the discontinuation.

QuickBooks POS is available for your reference permanently, but you can't accept payments after October 3, 2023. After you migrate to Shopify, you don't need to action any account cancellations. You also shouldn't process any sales using QuickBooks POS to avoid inventory and reporting errors.

Shopify POS compatibility with QuickBooks Desktop accounting software

When you migrate from QuickBooks Desktop POS to Shopify POS, a built-in importer tool imports your POS data and works with your QuickBooks Desktop accounting software for an ongoing sync of your accounting data.

Tip

If you’re using QuickBooks Online instead of QuickBooks Desktop, then you don't need to use the QuickBooks Desktop Connector app to integrate with Shopify. After you migrate your QuickBooks Desktop POS data to Shopify, install the QuickBooks Online app to your Shopify store to integrate your data.

To integrate with Shopify, you need to have a supported version of QuickBooks Desktop accounting software (2021, 2022, 2023, or 2024). Subscription users might need to download the latest version and release.
