Smart grid editor

To ensure your POS device suits the needs of your retail environment, you can customize your smart grid by adding and editing the smart grid tiles. These tiles can help retail staff with completing tasks and completing customer purchases.

If there are products that you regularly sell or tasks that your staff often need to complete, then you can add tiles to your smart grid to help complete those actions.

Access the smart grid editor

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

Adding tiles to your smart grid

You can add new tiles to your smart grid for extra functions, or to access regularly needed tools for your retail staff. For example, if your staff regularly need to access your online store, then you can add a link tile that links to your online store. You can add the following tiles to your smart grid:

• Add a link tile
• Add a fee tile
• Add a discount tile
• Add a action tile
• Add an app tile
• Add a product tile
• Add a collection tile
• Add a fulfillment tile

Add a link tile

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Click Add tile > Link.

6. In the Add link window, enter the link in the URL field.

7. In the Title field, enter a title for the tile.

8. Click Add.

9. Click Apply.

10. Click Save.

Add a fee tile

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Click Add tile > Fee.

6. In the Add fee window, enter a title and fee amount.

7. Optional: To charge taxes on the fee, select Charge taxes.

8. Click Add.

9. Click Apply.

10. Click Save.

Add a discount tile

If you use discounts on your store, then you can also add a discount tile to your smart grid. You can add a percentage, fixed amount, or discount code tile to your smart grid.

Steps:

Percentage

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Click Add tile > Discount.

6. In the Add discount window, select Percentage (%) from the Discount drop-down menu.

7. Enter the percentage of the discount in the Percentage field.

8. Optional: Input a reason for offering the discount in the Reason for discount field.

9. Click Add.

10. Click Apply.

11. Click Save.

Fixed amount

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Click Add tile > Discount.

6. In the Add discount window, select Fixed amount ($) from the Discount drop-down menu.

7. Enter the amount of the discount in the Amount field.

8. Optional: Input a reason for offering the discount in the Reason for discount field.

9. Click Add.

10. Click Apply.

11. Click Save.

Note

If you want to offer a discount code on Shopify POS, then you first need to create a discount code in your Shopify admin.

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Click Add tile > Discount.

6. In the Add discount window, select Discount code from the Discount drop-down menu.

7. Enter the discount code in the Discount code field.

8. Click Add.

9. Click Apply.

10. Click Save.

Add an action tile

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Click Add tile > Action.

6. Select the action that you want to add to your smart grid:

   • Add customer
   • Add custom sale
   • Apply discount
   • Add gift card
   • Add note
   • Attribute sale to staff
   • Lock screen
   • Open cash drawer
   • Save as draft order
   • Email to customer
   • Ship all items

7. Click Apply.

8. Click Save.

Add an app tile

Note

If you want to add an app to your smart grid, then you need to make sure that you're using an app that integrates with Shopify POS.

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Click Add tile > App.

6. Select the app that you want to add to your smart grid.

7. Select the app function that you want to add to your smart grid.

8. Click Apply.

9. Click Save.

Add a product tile

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Click Add tile > Product.

6. In the Add product window, select the product that you want to add to your smart grid.

7. Click Save.

8. Click Apply.

9. Click Save.

Add a collection tile

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Click Add tile > Collection.

6. In the Add collection window, select the collection that you want to add to your smart grid.

7. Click Save.

8. Click Apply.

9. Click Save.

Add a fulfillment tile

Note

If you want to include a fulfillment tile in your smart grid, then your POS location must be using Shopify POS Pro.

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Click Add tile > Fulfillment.

6. Select the action that you want to add to your smart grid:

   • View local delivery orders
   • View pickup orders

7. Click Apply.

8. Click Save.

Edit smart grid tiles

You can reorder, delete, or change the colour of tiles from your smart grid.

Reorder tiles in smart grid

You can reorder smart grid tiles on the same page. Tiles can't be reordered from one page to another page.

Steps:

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Under the page list of tiles, hover your cursor over the smart grid tile that you want to move.

6. Click and hold the handle icon (⠿) beside the smart grid tile, and then drag the tile to another position in the list.

7. Click Apply.

8. Click Save.

Delete tiles from smart grid

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Click the smart grid tile that you want to delete.

6. Click the trash can icon next to the name of the tile that you want to delete.

7. Click Apply.

8. Click Save.

Customize color of tiles

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Point of Sale > Settings.

2. In the Customize section, click Smart grid.

3. Click the smart grid that you want to edit.

4. In the Preview section, click Customize.

5. Click the smart grid tile that you want to edit.

6. In the Color section of the smart grid editor, use the dropdown to select a color for the tile.

7. Click Apply.

8. Click Save.
