Supported shipping label printers

You can choose the shipping label printer that you want to use each time you print a label. You can print and collate shipping labels during the shipping label purchase process or on the Shipping and delivery settings page in your Shopify admin.

For best results, use Shopify-supported hardware to print your shipping labels.

Shopify-supported shipping label printers

You can use shipping label printers to print the shipping labels that you buy in Shopify. Review the following table to learn more about Shopify-supported shipping label printers:

Dymo LabelWriter 4XL

The Dymo LabelWriter 4XL printer connects to your Windows or Mac computer by USB.

Rollo label printer

The Rollo label printer connects to your computer by USB and it doesn't require toner or ink to print.

Step 1: Set up your Rollo label printer

  1. If the printer switch is set to On, then turn it off by pressing the switch located on the back of the printer.
  2. Connect the power cable to your Rollo label printer.
  3. Connect the other end of the power cable to your power adapter, and connect the adapter to a power outlet.
  4. Connect the USB cable to your printer, and the other end to your computer.
  5. Insert the labels into the printer with the label side facing up.
  6. Adjust the tabs so that they hold the labels in place.
  7. Turn the power switch to On.
  8. Press and hold the purple button at the top of the label printer until you hear a beep, then let go. Your printer will automatically detect the label type and size.

Step 2: Install your Rollo label printer

Brother QL label printer

The Brother QL label printer supports USB and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Set up your Brother label printer

  1. Make sure that the power switch located on the back of the printer is set to Off.
  2. Connect the power cable to your Brother label printer, then plug the other end into a grounded AC power outlet.
  3. Pull the levers on both sides of the printer to open the label compartment.
  4. Place the label roll into the spool guide. Make sure that the spool arms are firmly seated in their mounts.
  5. Feed the label roll through the label printer. Keep the label roll straight to avoid skewed labels or label jams.
  6. Close the label compartment.
  7. Press the power button to turn the label printer On.
  8. Press the feed button to align the end of the label roll.

Connect your Brother label printer to your desktop computer or laptop

You can connect the Brother label printer to your Windows or Mac computer using a USB cable, a wired LAN connection, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi. Before you connect your label printer to your computer, you need to download the label printer software from the Brother's website, and then install the software to your computer.

Connect your Brother label printer to your iOS device

The Brother QL-111ONWB label printer supports Wi-Fi connectivity. You can connect your label printer to your iOS device using Airdrop or Wi-Fi direct.

Bixolon label printer

You can use the Bixolon label printer to print shipping labels if you are a merchant in the United Kingdom or Ireland. It connects to your computer by USB and doesn't require toner or ink to print. You can use the Zebra barcode labels to print shipping labels with the Bixolon label printer.

Steps:

Installation in Mac OS X

Steps:

  1. Visit Bixolon's website to download the correct driver for your computer.
  2. Find and open the installation package on your computer.
  3. In the dialog, double-click the .pkg file.
  4. Follow the instructions in the installer.

Installation in Windows

Steps:

  1. Visit Bixolon's website to download the correct driver for your computer.
  2. Find and open the installation package on your computer.
  3. Follow the instructions in the installer.

Zebra label printers

You can use the Wireless Zebra Label Printer (ZD420), USB Zebra Label Printer (ZD220), Zebra 2" ZSB Label Printer, and Zebra 4" ZSB Label Printer to print the shipping labels you buy in Shopify. Depending on the model, the printer connects to your device by USB, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi.

To print labels with either the ZD220 or ZD420 Zebra printer, you need to use Zebra brand labels in one of the following sizes:

  • Barcode - 10010037 (1.2" x 0.85")
  • Barcode - 10010038 (1.25" x 1")
  • Barcode - 10010039 (2" x 1")
  • Barcode - 10015340 (2.25" x 0.75")
  • Barcode - 10010043 (3" x 1")
  • Barcode - 10010044 (3" x 2")
  • Shipping - (4" x 6")

To print labels with a Zebra ZSB Series printer, you need to use Zebra brand labels in one of the following sizes:

  • Zebra Barcodes ZSB-LC6 (2.25" x 1") - 57mm x 25mm
  • Zebra Multipurpose ZSB-LC7 (1.25" x 1.25") - 32mm x 32mm
  • Zebra Jewelry ZSB-LC8 (2.25" x 0.5") - 57mm x 13mm
  • Zebra XL Shipping ZSB-LC1 (4" x 6") - 102mm x 152mm

Set up your Zebra ZD220 printer

Before you set up your Zebra ZD220 printer, you need to download the printer software from the Zebra Printer Setup website, and then install it to your device.

Steps:

  1. Connect your printer:
    1. Connect the power supply to your printer.
    2. Connect the power cord to the power supply.
    3. Connect the power cord to an AC power source.
    4. Verify that the power supply indicator is illuminated.
    5. Connect the USB cable to the label printer.
  2. Load media:
    1. Remove the outside wrap from the media roll.
    2. Place the media roll on the holder.
    3. Push the media under the guides.
    4. Align the sensor near the center.
    5. Close the printer.
  3. Power on and calibrate your printer:
    1. Press and release the power button. When the printer is ready to use, the status indicator shows green light. If the status indicator is green but blinks, then the printer is in the pause mode. To exit the pause mode, press the feed button.
    2. Press and hold the feed button until the status indicator blinks off and on twice. The printer slowly feeds and measures several labels. After the calibration finishes, the status indicator shows steady green light.
    3. Tear off the excess media.
    4. Press and hold the feed button until the status indicator blinks off and on once to test print the configuration report.

Set up your Zebra ZD420/ZD421 printer

  1. Connect your printer:
    1. Connect the power supply to your printer.
    2. Connect the power cord to the power supply.
    3. Connect the power cord to an AC power source.
    4. Verify that the power supply indicator is illuminated.
    5. Connect the USB cable to the label printer.
  2. Load media:
    1. Remove the outside wrap from the media roll.
    2. Place the media roll on the holder.
    3. Push the media under the guides.
    4. Align the sensor near the center.
    5. Insert ribbon take-up core and ribbon supply.
    6. Pull the paper through the take-up core.
    7. Close the printer.
  3. Power on and calibrate your printer:
    1. Press and release the power button. When the printer is ready to use, the status indicator shows green light. If the status indicator is green but blinks, then the printer is in the pause mode. To exit the pause mode, press the feed button.
    2. Press and hold the feed button until the status indicator blinks off and on twice. The printer slowly feeds and measures several labels. After the calibration finishes, the status indicator shows steady green light.

Set up your Zebra ZSB series printer

To set up and use your Zebra ZSB series label printer, you need to have Wi-Fi connection.

Steps:

  1. Power on your label printer. The printer automatically prints a label with a QR code when you first turn it on.
  2. Scan the QR code with your Android or iOS device’s camera, and then download the ZSB Series app.
  3. Create a Zebra utility account. There are no fees associated with account creation.
  4. Follow the steps in the app to set up your printer.

Standard desktop printer
