Getting paid
As a Shopify Partner, you earn money based on your contribution to the Shopify ecosystem (your activities) and the Partner program that you join. Your earnings might vary based on your country or region and the country or region of the merchants you work with.
Shopify might charge you taxes on its fees or pay out taxes on your referral commissions in certain cases. These taxes vary based on your country or region, the type of Partner activity, and the tax information you provide in your Partner Account settings. You might be responsible for remitting these taxes to the appropriate government authority. Learn more about Shopify Partner earnings.

How your earnings are calculated
Your referral commission is calculated on the subscription fee paid by the merchant to Shopify, net of any discounts or credits. Your app and theme revenue is calculated on the app or theme purchase made by the merchant from Shopify. Before your earnings are calculated, the merchant must pay Shopify for the related subscription fee, app purchase, or theme purchase.
The following are some factors that might impact your earnings:
- If a merchant's bill payment fails, then your earnings on their subscription fee, app purchase, or theme purchase are paid out only after the payment is retried and successfully processed.
- If a merchant's account is frozen due to non-payment, then your earnings on their subscription fee, app purchase, or theme purchase aren't paid out until the merchant's account is unfrozen and the payment is successfully processed.
- Stores without an associated subscription fee, such as Plus Expansion stores, don't contribute to your referral earnings.
- Earnings for stores on a Shopify Plus plan are calculated based on a monthly base fee, and don't include any additional variable fees.

Partner payout threshold and schedule
All you need is a minimum of $25 in earnings to receive a payout from Shopify. Earnings are accumulated and paid out on the following schedule:
- For first-time earnings for each new referral, a 30-day hold is applied after the merchant has paid their first bill to confirm the payment clears before earnings are accrued.
- For earnings accrued between the 1st to and including the 10th of the month, payment occurs 5 business days after the 15th day of the month.
- For earnings accrued between the 11th to and including the 5th last day of the month, payment occurs 5 business days after the last day of the month.
- For earnings accrued during the last 5 days of the month, payment occurs 5 business days after the 15th day of the following month.
Payments are delivered through Hyperwallet. Any money owed to you is paid out twice monthly if your balance is above $25 USD. If your balance is below $25 USD, then it is held until the next payout period.
Sales and referral activity earnings are calculated separately. If the threshold for referral earnings is met, but not sales earnings, then referral earnings are paid out and sales earnings continue to accrue until they meet the earnings threshold.
Additional considerations for payouts
Consider the following information related to payouts for Shopify Partners:
- For annual plans, Partners are paid out monthly at the 10% reduced rate.
- When Partner Accounts are merged, any pending payouts below $25 USD are forfeited unless you choose to wait until the amount is above $25 USD, so you can receive the payout.
- Partners aren't paid referral earnings for invoices paid with subscription credits.
- A successful payment from the merchant is required to generate a payout for a Partner. If a merchant's bill fails, then the Partner's payout isn't generates until it's been paid successfully by the merchant. Refer to How your earnings are calculated for more information.
There is no upper limit to the total amount of earnings that you collect or the number of clients you collect from.
