Managing updates

Generally, you manage your updates from Messenger in the same way you manage your updates from Facebook:

  • You can use the Facebook Pages Manager app for iOS or Android.
  • You can log in to your Facebook page on your desktop or laptop.

The messages will remain the same no matter what app or device you use.

To make it easier for you to keep up with your incoming messages, you can create saved replies on your Facebook Page.

If you find that you’re getting overwhelmed by incoming messages, then you can disable the Messenger channel temporarily (until you catch up on your current messages) or to remove it completely and stop all future outgoing updates.

Create saved replies

Facebook lets you create saved replies, which are message templates that you can reuse when replying to multiple messages. Learn how to create and how to use saved replies for your messages.

If you want to, you can also set up Instant Replies, which let you respond to customers quickly when they contact you on your Facebook Page and through Messenger.

Disable the Messenger channel

When you disable the Messenger channel, the widget that customers see on your checkout page will be removed. This means that new customers will not have the option to opt in to updates when they check out, but existing customers will continue to receive updates from you.

To disable the Messenger channel:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings, and then click Sales Channels (or press G S L).

  2. Click the trash icon beside Messenger.

Remove the Messenger channel

When you remove the Messenger channel, the widget that customers see on your checkout page will also be removed. Customers will stop receiving all future updates from you.

Tip

If you decide to add the Messenger channel again using the same Facebook page, then you can continue the conversations that you had started before.

To remove the Messenger channel:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings, and then click Sales Channels (or press G S L).

  2. Click the trash icon beside Messenger.
