Maintaining your blog

After you've published posts to your store's blog, you can always go back and edit, delete, or categorize them. You can also enable or disable commenting on your blog and moderate customer comments in your Shopify admin.

Edit a blog post

You might want to edit an existing blog post if:

  • You want to change the content in an original blog post.

  • You want to change a post's author, publish date, tags, search engine content or visibility.

  • You want to delete a blog post.

To edit a blog post:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Blog Posts (or press G W B).

  2. Click the title of the post you want to edit.

  3. Make your changes to the existing content.

  4. Click Save.

After you've edited your post, you can visit the page on your storefront to make that sure your changes appear.

Change the author of a blog post

To change the author of a blog post:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Blog Posts (or press G W B).

  2. Click the title of the post you want to edit.

  3. Select the name of the author from the Author drop-down list:

    Note

    Only store owners and staff members will appear in the drop-down menu.

  4. Click Save.

Delete a blog post

To delete a blog post:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Blog Posts (or press G W B).

  2. Click the blog post that you want to delete.

  3. From the blog post's information page, click Delete blog post.

  4. In the confirmation dialog, click Delete blog post:

Hide or unhide a blog post

To hide or unhide a blog post:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Blog Posts (or press G W B).

  2. Click the post that you want to edit.

  3. In the Visibility section, select Hidden to hide the blog post, or Visible to unhide it:

  4. Click Save.

Categorize your blog posts

You can use tags to categorize your blog posts by subject. You can give all posts with a similar subject the same tags, thereby creating multiple blog post categories. When a customer searches for this tag or category in your store, the search will return the tagged blog posts.

To set tags:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Blog Posts (or press G W B).

  2. Click the name of the blog post that you want to categorize.

  3. In the Tags text box under the Organization section, enter the tags and separate each with a comma. Existing tags will appear below the text box:

    To remove existing tags, click ˟ next to the term.

  4. Click Save.

Blog post metadata

You can control the information your customers see in search engines by changing your metadata. While metadata doesn't increase your search engine visibility, well-worded metadata can increase the chances a customer will click through your site.

To edit a blog post's title and meta description:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Blog Posts (or press G W B).

  2. Click the name of the blog post you want to categorize.

  3. Click Edit website SEO in the Search engine listing preview section:

  4. Make changes to Page title or Meta description:

  5. Click Save.

Enable or disable blog comments

You can enable or disable customer commenting on your blogs and blog posts according to your preference.

Note

Before you can enable commenting for you blog, you need have at least one blog post written.

To enable or disable blog comments:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Blog Posts (or press G W B).

  2. Click Manage blogs.

  3. Click the name of the blog that you want to enable comments for.

  4. In the Comments section, select one of the following:

    • Comments are disabled: customers can't leave comments on blog posts.
    • Comments are allowed, pending moderation: customers can comment on blog posts, but comments will not be published automatically. The shop owner will be able to decide whether a comment should be published.
    • Comments are allowed, and are automatically published: customers can leave comments on blog posts and they are automatically published to the site.

  5. Click Save.

Moderate comments

If you choose to allow comments pending moderation, then you will have to approve all comments before they are publicly visible.

To access pending comments:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Blog Posts (or press G W B).

  2. Click Manage comments:

  3. In the Comment section, click Approve to show the comment publicly on your blog, or click the Delete icon to remove the comment from your blog.

  4. Click Save.

Remove spam comments

Shopify checks all blog comments for signs of spam and flags them. Flagged comments won't be displayed on your blog, but will appear in your Shopify admin.

To delete a spam comment:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Blog Posts (or press G W B).

  2. Click Manage comments:

  3. Click Spam next to the comment to flag it :

  4. Click the Delete icon to remove the comment.

  5. Click Save.

Note

If a comment is mistakenly marked as spam, then you can click Not spam next to it, which will remove the flag and send us a notification. This data will be used to help improve our spam filters.
