Optimizing your products for AI platforms
You can optimize your products so that AI platforms and shopping sites can find and display them. Make sure to provide accurate, detailed, and descriptive product information.
All products that meet the requirements for Shopify Catalog are automatically included by default in Shopify Catalog. You can improve the way your products rank in search results by following these best practices:
- Review and update your product information to make sure that you're using clear, accurate, and detailed descriptions, to improve the chances that AI platforms are able to match your products to customer searches. Product details that are considered by the AI platforms or shopping sites include the following fields:
- Title
- Description
- Images
- Product organization details such as Type, Vendor, Collections, and Tags
- Barcode (ISBN, UPC, GTIN, etc.)
- Variants, including Option name
- External product URL, for stores on the Shopify Agentic plan
- View and change how your products display with Shopify Catalog by mapping product data to your preferred sources, without affecting the key product data that you have in your online store.
- Make sure that your store policies are complete and up-to-date. This is important, for example, so that when a customer asks about your return policy in an AI interaction, the AI agent can reference the correct information that you've stored in Shopify.
- Use the Shopify Knowledge Base app to review and customize FAQs that AI platforms use to answer questions. With this app, you can do any of the following AI optimization tasks:
- Review and customize automatically-generated facts about your store that AI platforms use to answer questions.
- Review common questions asked by shoppers.
- Create your own questions and answers to highlight what's unique about your store.
