Payment options for hemp sales on Shopify
Shopify Payments doesn't support the sale of hemp, cannabidiol (CBD), and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) products. To process the sales of hemp or hemp-derived products through your Shopify store, you can use third-party payment providers that are compatible with Shopify and support the sale of these products.

Hemp transactions
Third-party payment providers tend to have a more thorough vetting process for stores that apply to sell hemp through their services. Each payment provider may consider various factors such as product type, business creation date, transaction history, volume, and product mix when approving payments and rates for stores selling hemp products. Approval decisions are at the discretion of each third-party payment gateway, and Shopify can’t guarantee the approval of your store.
Shopify Payments and third-party payment providers
Currently, Shopify Payments doesn’t support the sale of hemp and hemp derived CBD and THC products. However, Shopify has partnered with integrated third-party payment gateways that do support the sale of these products. You can use any integrated third-party payment provider that’s compatible with Shopify and supports the sale of hemp products. Examples of third-party gateways that you can apply to use are DigiPay and Bankful.
Third-party payment providers have their own policies regarding the products they support. It’s your responsibility to confirm with the specific payment gateway whether they support the sale of hemp products, as not all of the third-party payment gateways partnered with Shopify are compatible with hemp sales. Existing Shopify Payments users
If you already use Shopify Payments and you want to add hemp products to your store, then you have a few options. You can change your payment settings to use a third-party payment provider, open a second store exclusively for hemp products using a third-party payment provider, or remove the hemp products from your existing store.
Using Shopify after being removed from Shopify Payments
If Shopify Payments was removed from your store due to the sale of hemp products, then you may still be able to use Shopify to host your store while processing payments through an alternative third-party payment gateway. However, you must comply with the laws and regulations that apply to your business when selling hemp products on Shopify.
Selling hemp products in the same store
If your chosen payment gateway allows for the sale of hemp products, then you can sell these items alongside other products in the same store.
