Activating calculated shipping with FedEx
You can display shipping rates in your checkout that are calculated by FedEx. You need to set up your FedEx account, and then connect it to your Shopify admin. After you connect your account, you can display shipping rates in your checkout that are calculated by Fedex.
If you have a fulfillment location that's based in the United States, then you can buy FedEx by Shippo shipping labels directly in your Shopify admin for orders shipping within the United States. Before you can buy FedEx by Shippo shipping labels using your own account, you need to install the FedEx by Shippo app.

Plan requirements for third-party carrier-calculated shipping
To use third-party carrier-calculated shipping, you must be on the Shopify Advanced or Shopify Plus plan. If you're currently on the Shopify plan, then you can opt for the monthly fee to add this feature or switch to yearly billing. Third-party carrier-calculated shipping isn't available on the Basic Shopify or Shopify Starter plans.
Requirements for activating calculated shipping with FedEx
To activate calculated shipping with FedEx, you need to meet the following requirements:
- You need to have your own FedEx account.
- Your store needs to be on the Advanced Shopify or Plus plan. If you're on the Shopify plan, then you can add this feature for a monthly fee or switch from monthly to yearly billing. For more information, contact Shopify Support.
Step 1: Create your FedEx account
- Visit the FedEx website and create a FedEx account. Make note of the account number that you are assigned and make sure your billing address is correct.
- Log in to your FedEx account and follow the FedEx Web Services guide to get your production keys.
- Record the following information at the end of your registration process, because you will need this information to activate FedEx in the Shopify admin:
- Authentication Key
- Account Number
- Production Meter Number
Step 2: Connect your FedEx account
To activate calculated shipping with FedEx, you need to connect your FedEx account to your Shopify admin. If your store is located outside the United states, then you can connect your account to provide calculated shipping rates. If you have fulfillment locations in the United States, then you can connect your Fedex account to provide calculated shipping rates and purchase shipping labels in the Shopify admin through Fedex by Shippo.
Steps:
Desktop
- From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.
- Add FedEx by Shippo as a shipping carrier:
- If you don't have any shipping carrier accounts added, then click Connect carrier account, and then click Connect account next to FedEx by Shippo.
- If you already have a shipping carrier account added, then click Manage carriers, and then click Connect account next to FedEx by Shippo.
- In the Connect FedEx by Shippo dialog, enter your FedEx credentials and shipping information.
- Optional: If you've activated FedEx SmartPost rates with FedEx, then enter your SmartPost Hub ID to display your negotiated rates at checkout.
- Click Save.
iPhone
- From the Shopify app, tap the … button, and then tap Settings.
- In the Store settings section, tap Shipping and delivery .
- Add FedEx by Shippo as a shipping carrier:
- If you don't have any shipping carrier accounts added, then tap Connect carrier account, and then tap Connect account next to FedEx by Shippo.
- If you already have a shipping carrier account added, then tap Manage carriers, and then tap Connect account next to FedEx by Shippo.
- In the Connect FedEx by Shippo dialog, enter your FedEx credentials and shipping information.

Step 3: Test your carrier-calculated shipping rates
After you connect your third-party shipping carrier to your Shopify admin, you can test your account integration and preview calculated shipping rates for specific package types, sizes, and destinations within the Shopify admin.
The shipping rates that are displayed during testing are sample rates and might be different from the shipping rates displayed to your customers at checkout.

Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.
In the Carrier accounts section, click Test account next to the carrier that you want to test.
Select the package type, and then enter the size and weight.
Adjust your origin and destination addresses. The Ship From and Ship To fields use your default location information.
Click Test rates to view sample rates.
Optional: Click the Details tab to enter different package details.
Click Close.

Step 4: Set up carrier-calculated shipping rates
Set up your shipping rates calculated by FedEx to display them to your customers at checkout.
Desktop
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.
In the Shipping section, click the shipping profile that you want to add carrier-calculated rates to.
Next to the zone where you want to add a rate, click Add rate.
Select Use carrier or app to calculate rates.
In the drop-down menu, choose the shipping service that you want to add calculated rates for.
In the SERVICES section, select the shipping methods from that shipping service that you want to provide as options for your customers at checkout.
Optional: In the FUTURE SERVICES section, choose whether to automatically offer any new services that the shipping service makes available.
Optional: In the HANDLING FEE section, add any handling fee that you'd like to be added to the calculated rate.
Click Done, and then click Save.

Deactivate FedEx calculated shipping
If you no longer want to use calculated shipping by FedEx, then you can disconnect your carrier account from your Shopify admin.
Desktop
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.
In the Carrier accounts section, click Manage carriers.
Next to FedEx, click Disconnect account.
In the dialog, click Disconnect account to confirm the deactivation.
iPhone
Steps:
- From the Shopify app, tap the … button, and then tap Settings.
- In the Store settings section, tap Shipping and delivery .
- In the Carrier accounts section, tap Manage carriers.
- Next to FedEx, tap Disconnect account.
- In the dialog, tap Disconnect account to confirm the deactivation.

Steps:
- From the Shopify app, tap the … button, and then tap Settings.
- In the Store settings section, tap Shipping and delivery .
- In the Carrier accounts section, tap Manage carriers.
- Next to FedEx, tap Disconnect account.
