Shopify Plus plan feature test drives

Feature test drives let you activate upcoming Shopify features on specific stores in your Shopify Plus plan organization before the feature is released to all Shopify stores. This lets you test and update any workflows and API integrations that might need to be adjusted due to the new feature, so that you're prepared for when the feature is released to all your stores.

To access feature test drives in your Shopify Admin, click Settings, and then in the Organization section, click Feature test drives.

A list of features is displayed with auto-release timelines and the number of stores the feature is active on.

Permissions

Permissions for feature test drives default to the organization owner. The organization owner can create a user role with the organization-level Feature test drives permission to grant other users access to feature test drives.

Notifications

When a feature is released to feature test drives, you receive an email with details on the feature. You can manage which stores you want to activate that feature on.

If there are any issues activating features in your stores, then you receive an email.

Activate features

You can activate features for all stores at the same time or individual stores as needed.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings.

  2. In the Organization section, click Feature test drives.

  3. Next to the feature that you want to activate, click Activate feature on stores.

  4. In the dialog box, a list of your stores displays. You can filter by development or production stores. You can complete the following actions:

    • Toggle Automatically activate on all future stores to automatically activate the feature on all your new stores.
    • Select the Stores checkbox to select all stores in the current view or the entire organization.
    • Select a checkbox next to a store name to select the individual stores. You can select as many stores as you want.
  5. Click Save.

Deactivate features

You can deactivate features for your stores.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings.

  2. In the Organization section, click Feature test drives.

  3. Next to the feature that you want to deactivate, click Manage.

  4. Deselect stores to deactivate the feature.

  5. Click Save.

Manage the release date

Each feature will release by a specific date, but you have some flexibility before that date. You can edit the auto-release timeline to any time before the date the feature must release.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings.

  2. In the Organization section, click Feature test drives.

  3. In the timeline section for the feature, click the pencil icon.

  4. Select a new date from the calendar picker.
