Combined listings

Shopify Combined Listings combines individual products into a single combined listing based on a shared option, such as color, model, or dimension. You can use combined listings to create enhanced product listings on your storefront with additional options, and information that is available to products but not variants, including title, image gallery, and description.

Eligibility requirements

To use the Shopify Combined Listings app, your store must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be on the Shopify Plus plan.
  • Your store must be using the Online Store sales channel.
  • Your theme must be updated to be able to display combined listings.

Theme requirements

Your theme code requires additional customization to display combined listing products on your storefront.

If you're not sure whether your theme is compatible, then you can contact your theme's developer for support.

You can find instructions for updating your theme code in Shopify's Combined Listings developer documentation. If you need help with making changes to your theme, then you can contact your theme's developer for support.

Adding the Combined listings reference theme

Before you update your theme, you can install this reference theme that supports combined listings to preview how combined listings will display on your storefront or on a development store that is compatible with the Combined Listings early access app.

You can preview your combined listing in one of the following ways depending on whether your combined listing product status is set to Active or Draft, and whether the reference theme is published or unpublished:

  • If your combined listing status is set to Active, and the reference theme is unpublished, then you can preview the unpublished theme from your theme library, and then navigate to the product from the theme preview tab, or from the Products section of your Shopify admin.
  • If your product is set to Draft, and the reference theme is published, then you can preview the combined listing from Products section of your Shopify admin.
  • If your combined listing status is set to Draft, and the reference theme is unpublished, then you can combine the preview urls to display a preview of the combined listing.

Steps:

  1. Download the reference theme.
  2. Upload the reference theme to your Shopify admin Themes page.
  3. Optional: If you haven't created any combined listings yet, then create a combined listing in the app.
  4. Preview your combined listing with the reference theme.

Limitations

Combined listings created in the early access Shopify Combined Listings app have the following limitations and behaviors:

  • Only the Online Store sales channel is supported. Products in combined listings will display as individual products on unsupported sales channels.
  • A combined listing can't be added as a featured product on your online store.
  • Storefront search and filter results for combined listings will return results for both the combined listing and each product included in the combined listing.
  • Products that are part of a combined listing might display other products from shared combined listings in automatically generated related products.
  • Combined listings won't rank highly in collections sorted by Best selling. This is because the sales data from included products isn't attributed to the combined listing.
  • Combined listings aren't compatible with Product Taxonomy features.
  • Combined Listings might not work with apps that display child-product specific information on the product detail page on Online Store.
  • Combined listings can't be added to a product bundle or as a subscription.

Identifying combined listings

A combined listing is added to the Products section of your Shopify admin as a separate product listing from the products contained in the combined listing. You can identify combined listing products in the Products section by the Inventory column, which displays Combined listings with XX products for combined listing products.

Combined listing products, and the products included in the combined listing, display the Combined Listings app block section on the product details page.

Managing combined listings

You can create and delete combined listings, and manage the included products and options for existing combined listings from the Shopify Combined Listings app.

Manage product price, variant options, media, and other product details for the combined listing, and the products included in the combined listing from the Products section of the admin.

Create a combined listing

You can add up to 3 options to the combined listing. Combined listing options are added separately from and in addition to any variant options added to the included products.

For example, if you sell shoes on your online store in different colors and sizes, then you can create a Color option for the combined listing, and create a Size option in the individual products that you want to add to the combined listing.

By default, your combined listing product is set to Draft status. After you create your combined listing, you can adjust the product status from the product details page in the Products section of your Shopify admin.

To ensure that options display correctly on your storefront, keep in mind the following option requirements when adding options to your included products and combined listing:

  • All option names in a combined listing and included products must be unique. For example, if the products you want to add to the listing have an option named color, then don't add an option named color to the combined listing.
  • All products included in a combined listing must have at least one shared option value per option. For example, if your products have a Size option with the values of Small, Medium, and Large, then make sure all products included in the combined listing have either Small, Medium, or Large as a value in the Size option.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Combined Listings.
  2. Click Create combined listing.
  3. Enter a title for your combined listing.

  11. Click Save.
