Pinterest Tag

When you install the Pinterest sales channel, you automatically get access to the engagement data provided by Pinterest Tag. With Pinterest Tag, you can track and view engagement data.

You can use data collected by Pinterest Tag to better understand which of your products are successful on Pinterest, and to target new customers using Promoted Pins.

You can track:

  • clicks to Buyable Pins
  • views of close-ups to Buyable Pins
  • re-pins of Buyable Pins
  • top Buyable Pins by re-pins and clicks.

Including Pinterest Tag in your privacy policy

Pinterest requires that you state you are using Pinterest Tag in your store's Privacy Policy. Make sure you clearly state that your store uses Pinterest Tag to track your customers' behavior.

Using Pinterest Tag

How you install Pinterest Tag depends on whether you already have the Pinterest Sales Channel active on your store.

If you have installed the Pinterest Sales Channel


  1. In the Pinterest Tag section, click Enable.

If you have not installed the Pinterest sales channel


  1. Opt in to using Pinterest Tag by clicking the checkbox.

If you can't install the Pinterest sales channel

Using the Pinterest sales channel is the best way to enable Pinterest Tag. If your store is ineligible for the sales channel, or you would rather not use it, then it is possible to still use Pinterest Tag. Pinterest has detailed information about how to enable Pinterest Tag.

You have two options for enabling Pinterest Tag:

Upload a file

Download an html file from your Pinterest business account profile and upload it to your store. You will have to confirm your store from your Pinterest business account profile to activate Pinterest Tag.

Add the tracking code to your store pages

Copy the code from Pinterest Tag.


  1. Find the theme you want to edit, and then click Actions > Edit code.

  2. Click theme.liquid.

  3. Scroll until you see </head> and paste the code above it.

Confirming your store

Before you can access the engagement data that Pinterest Tag provides, you have to confirm your store with a snippet of code.


  1. Find the Website section, and click Confirm website.
  2. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Themes.
  3. Find the theme you want to edit, click the ... button, and then click Edit HTML/CSS.
  4. Click theme.liquid.
  5. Scroll until you see </head> and paste the code above it.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Return to Pinterest and click the Finish button to confirm your store.

If you get an error while confirming your store, then you can contact Pinterest to have them confirm your store.

Disabling Pinterest Tag


  1. In the Pinterest Tag section, click Disable.
