All-new Shopify POS for Android
In May 2021, the all-new Shopify POS app will replace the POS Classic app that you’re currently using. The all-new POS is an upgrade from the Classic app, with new features, shortcuts for existing workflows, and an intuitive design.
When you log in to your Shopify POS app, you will be prompted to update to the all-new Shopify POS. If you have automatic updates enabled, then the all-new POS will update and be ready to use with no action required on your part.

Why is the Shopify POS app changing?
The all-new Shopify POS is an upgrade of the Shopify POS Classic app that has a refreshed design and new features. It provides a better user experience for you by supporting short cuts for common retail workflows and will allow Shopify to continue to introduce new features at a faster pace for your business. The all-new Shopify POS app is included with all Shopify subscription plans.
What does the all new POS app look like?

Is there a charge for updating to the all new POS app experience?
No. All merchants using Shopify POS Classic will have the all-new POS app free of charge. The default POS app subscription will be POS Lite, which is included with your Shopify Plan.
When will the all-new POS app replace the POS Classic app?
In May 2021, you will need to update to the all-new POS app when you log in to your devices. If you have automatic updates enabled, then this will happen with no action required on your part.
Can I switch back to POS Classic?
No. Once the POS Classic app is deprecated it will no longer be available.
If one of my devices updates to the all-new Shopify POS, do my other devices switch too?
It depends on your devices’ settings. If you have enabled automatic updates for the Shopify POS app on a device, when you log in, the all-new POS app will be ready to use. If you have devices without automatic updates enabled, when you try to log in to the app you’ll be prompted to update before you can continue using Shopify POS.
Do all of my current Shopify POS settings sync with the all-new Shopify POS?
Most of your settings will sync with the all-new POS. When you upgrade, your staff, product, order, and tax information will all sync. Recent searches and cash tracking information will not sync. You will need to reconnect any hardware.
What Android devices does Shopify POS work with?
The Shopify POS app works with Android devices of any model running version 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher.
What is a Staff PIN?
Shopify POS introduces staff pins which are a unique four-digit personal identification number (PIN) to access the Shopify POS app.
When a logged-in staff processes a checkout through Shopify POS, their staff name is connected to that order. You can check which staff processed an order on the order's detailed view in Shopify POS, and in the order's Timeline in the Shopify admin.
If you're unsure about which PIN is assigned to which staff member, then you can set a new staff pin for them in the Shopify admin.
- In the Shopify admin, navigate to settings.
- Click Users and permissions.
- Click on the staff account name you want to edit.
- In the Point of sale access section, enable the Give Point of sale access to this staff permission.
- In the PIN section, enter a four-digit PIN or click Generate new PIN so that the staff can use that PIN to log in to Shopify POS.
- Click Save.
What is Shopify POS Pro?
Shopify POS Pro is an add-on to the all-new POS that unlocks additional features for brick-and-mortar businesses. You can select your POS subscription on a per-location basis, enabling you to meet your store’s needs. If you are a Shopify Plus merchant, then POS Pro is included in your plan.
In a few months, the POS Pro subscription will be available for Android devices. At that time, you’ll be able to upgrade your POS subscription to get advanced features like staff permissions, local pickup fulfillment, exchanges, daily store analytics on POS, custom receipts and more.
