Requirements
To use this hardware with your Shopify store, you need to meet the following requirements:
- the Shopify POS app
- a compatible iPad that is running iOS 15 or higher, an iPhone that is running iOS 15 or higher, or a compatible Android device that is running version 10 or higher

Shopify POS app iOS and Android device compatibility requirements
The Shopify POS app is available for only iOS and Android devices. It's not available for laptop or desktop computers.
The Shopify POS app works with devices that meet the following requirements:

The Shopify POS app no longer supports iOS 14 or lower. With older versions of iOS, you can continue to use the app but you can no longer update it. To take advantage of bug fixes and new features, you need to update your device to iOS 15 or higher. If that isn't possible, then switch to using Shopify POS on another device that is running iOS 15 or higher.
iOS 15 permission requirements
If you update your device to iOS 15 or higher and use third-party Shopify apps, then you might need to activate Cross-Website tracking in your iOS settings. Cross-Website tracking lets third-party Shopify apps that you install in your Shopify admin stay connected in Shopify Inbox, Shopify Point of Sale, and the Shopify app.
To activate Cross-Website tracking, complete the following steps:
- Open the Settings app on your device.
- Tap Shopify, Shopify POS, or Shopify Inbox.
- Activate Allow Cross-Website Tracking.
You can also buy these supported cash drawers from many authorized resellers.
Installing the cash drawer
Connect the cash drawer to the receipt printer using the cash drawer cable provided. The larger end of the cable plugs into the cash drawer, and the smaller end of the cable plugs into the receipt printer.
Opening the cash drawer
You can open the cash drawer manually using the included keys, or wirelessly from your iPad, iPhone, or Android tablet. The device connects to the cash drawer through the receipt printer, and the cash drawer opens automatically after each sale, or if you tap Go to cart > More actions > Open drawer from the Shopify POS app.
Test the connection to the cash drawer
When you've set up your receipt printer and your cash drawer, you can check that the connection between them is working.
Steps:
- From Shopify POS, tap ≡, and then tap Settings.
- Tap Manage connected hardware.
- Tap the printer that you want to test.
- Tap Test cash drawer.
Common issues
To avoid common problems, make sure your printer is set up correctly in the following ways:
- the cash drawer's cable is plugged into the receipt printer
- the receipt printer has paper
- the receipt printer is properly paired with the iPad, iPhone, or Android tablet. The pairing instructions for your receipt printer depends on which receipt printer model you have.
- you're using the cash drawer cable that you received in the hardware package to connect the cash drawer to the printer.
If you tap No Sale on the products and cart screen and the cash drawer doesn't open, then this is likely a problem with the cash drawer cable. Contact our support team.
