Pre-authorized returns to Shopify Fulfillment Network

By choosing to include a pre-authorized return label in shipments, you can enable customers to return products to Shopify Fulfillment Network (SFN) without needing to manually create a return in your Shopify admin. Shipments that are sent within the United States from SFN fulfillment centers located in the US are eligible to have pre-authorized return labels included.

Activate pre-authorized return labels

You can choose to have a pre-authorized return label included with all shipments, or only for orders over a chosen value. After activating pre-authorized return labels, you're billed for any items that are returned by customers and processsed by SFN. Access your SFN rate card to view details pricing information.

Before you activate pre-authorized return labels

Before you activate pre-authorized return labels, set up return rules for your products that are fulfilled by SFN.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Shopify Fulfillment Network.

  3. Click Open app.

  4. Click Settings.

  5. Click Manage returns.

  6. In Pre-authorized return labels, click Manage.

  7. If you want to include a pre-authorized return label in all orders, select Include for all orders, otherwise select Only include for orders above a value of and enter a value.

  8. Click Save.

After you activate pre-authorized returns, labels are included in eligible orders that are sent to SFN for fulfillment.

Reprint a pre-authorized return label

If a pre-authorized return label is lost or damaged, then you can reprint the return label to generate a PDF copy that you can then send to your customer.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Shopify Fulfillment Network.

  3. Click Open app.

  4. Click Returns.

  5. For the Status filter, select Pending.

  6. Click the order that you want to reprint the pre-authorized return label for.

  7. Click Reprint label.

A PDF return label downloads that you can then send to your customer for them to print.

Accessing orders with a pre-authorized return label

After a shipping carrier scans a pre-authorized return label, the return is displayed as Pre-authorized on the Returns tab in the SFN app. Before SFN personnel review the return at the fulfillment center and determine which items are included, the return summary page lists all the items from the original order. After the inspection is complete, the summary contains the following information:

  • the return number
  • the items that are listed in the return
  • whether the items were received
  • the condition of the items
  • whether the items were restocked or disposed of

You can issue a refund at any time during the return process, even if SFN personnel haven't finished processing the return. When SFN personnel finish inspecting the returned items, you receive an email message that contains a link to issue a refund for the order in your Shopify admin.
