Managing your domain in Shopify

You manage all of your domain settings on the Domains page in your Shopify admin.

Set your primary domain

In Shopify, a primary domain is the domain name that customers see in the address bar while they browse your online store. You can use your root domain or a subdomain as your primary domain, but you can have only one primary domain.

You assign your primary domain from the Domains page of your Shopify admin.

Before setting a primary domain, make sure that you:

Note

Make sure your domains show their status as OK before setting your primary domain. Changes to a domain take about 4 hours to fully take effect.

To set your primary domain:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Domains (or press G W D).

  2. In the Set primary domain section, click the Primary domain drop-down menu.

Remove a domain

If you no longer want a custom domain associated with your Shopify store, then you can remove it from your Domains page.

To remove your custom domain:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Online Store, and then click Domains (or press G W D).

  2. In the Manage domains section, find the domain you want to remove, and click the Delete domain icon:

    Delete domain
  3. A dialog window opens. Click Delete to confirm:

If you decide to use that domain name for your Shopify store again, then you can add it by claiming it in your Shopify admin. This step is required for domains that you've purchased from Shopify or from a third-party provider.
