Choosing a checkout for the Facebook sales channel

If your store is eligible to use the Facebook checkout, then you can choose a checkout for customers to use when buying your products. When you enable the Facebook checkout, eligible customers can buy your products without leaving Facebook.

If your store doesn't meet the requirements for using the Facebook checkout, then you can still use the sales channel to list your products, but your customers will buy your products by using Shopify's checkout.

Facebook holds merchants accountable to specific timelines and other requirements for fulfillment, returns, and shipping of orders placed with the Facebook checkout.

Note

If you want all customer orders to be subject to your business's published fulfillment and return policies, then choose the Shopify checkout as your default in the Facebook sales channel.

Facebook checkout eligibility

To be eligible for checkout on Facebook, your store needs to:

  • be on a Shopify Lite plan or above
  • have at least one product
  • sell in United States dollars
  • ship to the United States
  • use Shopify Payments
  • have a Terms of Service policy.

Select Use Shopify checkout if you want to use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments, or if you don't ship to the United States.

Select a checkout for Facebook

To select a checkout option for your customers:

  1. Click Account

  2. In the Checkout section, select one of the following options from the drop-down menu:

    • Best checkout option available (recommended): Customers will check out through Facebook when eligible, otherwise they will be redirected to your Shopify checkout.
    • Customers purchase through Shopify checkout: All customers will be redirected to your Shopify checkout:

  3. Click Save to confirm your change.

Note

Only customers browsing from the United States will be able to use the Facebook checkout. All other customers will be redirected to your Shopify checkout. Customers can't use Shopify discount codes when checking out on Facebook, and they won't receive Shopify order notification emails.

Review Facebook's sales policy

Make sure that you review Facebook's commerce merchant agreement including the Customer Support Policy. This policy affects how you process orders placed directly on Facebook (which appear as Facebook sales in your Shopify admin). Facebook holds merchants accountable to specific timelines and other requirements for those orders' fulfillment, returns, and shipping.
