You can customize the template for your printed receipts with the visual receipt editor.

Considerations for using the receipt visual editor

Review the following considerations before you use the receipt visual editor:

  • You can customize your receipts from your Shopify admin in the Point of Sale channel, or from the Shopify POS app. If you want to make changes to all of your locations at one time, then you need to make your changes from your Shopify admin in the Point of Sale channel.
  • When you save a customization, you can choose to apply that customization to all locations, or for the selected location only.
  • You can add only a custom header and footer from the visual editor for any specific locations with the Shopify POS Lite subscription.
  • Printed receipt customizations that you add from the Shopify POS apply to the active POS device location. To customize your receipt template for other locations, or for all locations, customize from your Shopify admin in the Point of Sale channel.
  • Customizations that you make in the visual editor are shared between the POS app and the Shopify admin visual editor for any applicable locations.
  • Customizations made in the visual editor apply to all types of printed receipts, such as sales receipts and gift receipts. You can use the code editor to customize specific types of receipts.

Add custom information to your receipts

You can display additional information on your printed receipt template by customizing your receipt templates. For example, you can include a receipt barcode that opens the matching order in Shopify POS when scanned with a 1D or 2D barcode scanner or your device's camera.

You can customize the following receipt settings for your printed receipts:

You can add any of the following details to your printed receipt template:

  • in the Store details section, you can add the following details:
    • location address
    • location phone number
  • in the Order information section, you can add the following details:
    • add a total sales box
    • add a SKU
    • add a compare at price
    • add a discount code
    • add the name of the staff member attributed to sale
    • add the name of the staff member at the register
    • add an order note
    • add customer information
  • in the Barcode section, select 1D or 2D barcode from the drop-down menu
  • in the QR code section, check Custom QR code, and then enter the following details:
    • a title, for example Scan for 10% off
    • a URL that the QR will open after it's scanned

Steps:

You can add a logo to your receipts from your in the Point of Sale channel in your Shopify admin on desktop or mobile browser, or from the Shopify app.

The printed receipt logo must be a JPG or PNG file with a size of 400 px by 200 px, and the image must be in black and white. If you upload an image with color in it, then the image is converted into greyscale.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.
  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Point of sale.
  3. Click Open sales channel.

  4. Click Settings > Receipt customization.

  5. In the Receipt settings section, choose the POS location from the drop-down menu that you want to add a logo for.

  6. Click Logo, and then click Add image to upload a 400 px by 200 px logo image file.

  7. Optional: Choose a logo width from the drop-down menu.

  8. Click Save, and then do one of the following:

    • If you want to use the logo on all of your retail location receipts, then click Save for all retail locations.
    • If you want to use the logo only for the location you selected, then click Save for this location only.

You can include store information, such as your return policy or store hours, in the header or footer of your receipts.

Previewing printed receipts

You can preview the following options from the visual editor:

  • Receipt type: You can preview the sale receipt or gift receipt template.
  • Printer You can preview your receipt template on the Star Micronics/Epson TM (80 mm) printer or on the Star Micronics mPOP™ (57 mm) printer.
