Tracking a return in your Shopify Fulfillment Network app

After you create a return to Shopify Fulfillment Network (SFN), you can track the status of the return in your SFN app.

Track a return in your SFN app

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Shopify Fulfillment Network.

  3. Click the Returns tab.

  4. Optional: To filter your returns by their status, click Status and then select a status.

  5. Click the return that you want to track.

Return tracking statuses in your SFN app

In your SFN app, a return can have the following tracking statuses:

SFN return tracking statuses and their descriptions
Status Description
Pending Your return is created in your Shopify admin and SFN received a request for sending the return to a fulfillment center.
Accepted Your request to send a return to SFN is accepted.
In transit Your return is in transit to a fulfillment center.
Returned Your return is received and inspected by the fulfillment center.

Set up returns email notifications

After the inspection is complete, your assigned staff member receives a returns email notification from SFN that contains a summary of the return. The summary contains the following information:

  • the return number
  • the items that are listed in the return
  • whether the items were received
  • the condition of the items
  • whether the items were restocked or disposed of

You can assign which staff member receives email notifications when your return inspection is complete.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Shopify Fulfillment Network.

  3. Click Settings.

  4. In the Returns section, click Change in the Email notifications section.

  5. In the dialog, select a staff member from the drop-down menu next to Returns to assign the staff member.

  6. Click Save.

If you don't want to receive email messages about returns, then you can deactivate these notifications by unchecking Return inspections in your SFN app settings.

Issuing a refund for a return

Returns that have a Returned status in your SFN app are displayed as Return in progress in your Shopify admin until you issue a full or partial refund for that return or you mark it as returned.

You can issue a full or partial refund for your return by clicking the Issue refund button in the return email or clicking Refund on the return's details page in your SFN app.

If you want to close the return without refunding the customer, then mark the order as returned in your Shopify admin after the inspection is complete.
