Requirements

To use this hardware with your Shopify store, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • the all-new Shopify POS
  • a compatible iPad that is running iOS 12.5.1 or higher, an iPhone that is running iOS 12.5.1 or higher, or a compatible Android device that is running version 7.0 (Nougat) or higher

  • a Shopify store based in Italy

iOS 14 permission requirements

If you have updated your device to iOS 14 or higher and use third-party Shopify apps, then you might need to enable Cross-Website tracking in your iOS settings. Cross-Website tracking lets third-party Shopify apps that you have installed in your Shopify admin stay connected in Shopify Inbox, Shopify Point of Sale, and the Shopify mobile app.

To enable Cross-Website tracking, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Tap Shopify, Shopify POS, or Shopify Inbox.
  3. Enable Allow Cross-Website Tracking.

Plug in your Epson FP-81 II RT receipt printer

Before you can use the FP-81 II RT receipt printer, you need to connect your printer to the power supply.

Steps:

  1. Plug one end of the power cable into the back of your receipt printer.

  2. Plug the other end of the cable into a power outlet and turn on the printer.

If the paper is loaded, then a diagnostic report prints.

Connect the Epson FP-81 II RT receipt printer with your POS device

The Epson FP-81 II RT receipt printer connects to your network using an Ethernet cable. To use this printer, you must have a network set up in your location and a router that you can connect to your printer to using an Ethernet cable.

Steps:

  1. Connect your printer to the power supply and turn the receipt printer on using the power switch.

  2. Insert a roll of thermal printing paper into the printer.

  3. Connect the receipt printer to the Ethernet port on your router and verify that your Network and SSL connection are enabled in your printer settings. This makes the printer discoverable in the Shopify POS app.

  4. In the Shopify POS app, tap the button > Settings > Set up hardware.

  5. Tap Receipt printer.

  6. The Shopify POS app scans for available printers. If a printer is found and is not password protected, then it connects automatically. If a printer is found and is password protected, then you can enter the password to connect. If no printer is found, then you can enter the DHCP address to connect.

  7. Confirm that your printer shows up as connected under Receipt Printers.

After connecting your printer, don't forget to:

Turn on your SSL connection

  1. Connect your keypad and display to the printer.

  2. On the numeric keypad, enter 3333 and then press Chiave. The custom display will show S - SCELTA FUNZIONE.

  3. Enter 34, and then press Contante until WEB SERVER: SSL displays.

  4. Change X to 1 and then press Contante.

  5. Press Chiave to exit the menu, and then restart the printer.

Find your IP address (DHCP address)

  1. Connect your keypad and display to the printer.

  2. On the numeric keypad, enter 3333 and then press Chiave. The custom display will show S - SCELTA FUNZIONE.

  3. Enter 19, and then press with Contante to enter the LAN configuration.

  4. Enter 1 to enable DHCP, and then press Contante. The DHCP address displays.

  5. Press the , button and then Chiave to exit the menu.

  6. Optional: If you want to print network connection information, press “Sub Totale”.

ERROR indicator is blinking yellow

This is caused when there is no paper present in the printer. Open the printer, replace the paper, and close the lid.

Paper jams

If you feed the paper into the receipt printer at an angle, then a paper jam is likely to happen. If this happens, then turn off the printer, open it up, and feed the paper in again.

If you're trying to make your receipt narrower than the specified 3-inch width, then use the divider provided. Don't fold the paper when you feed it into the printer.

Customize receipts

You can customize the fields that appear in your receipts in the receipt editor in the Shopify POS app and in your Shopify admin.

Lottery code

When using an Epson FP-81 II RT printer, you can add the lottery code to your receipts. This option can be accessed under More actions in your cart in the Shopify POS app.

FAQs

Can I add another fee, for example, the revenue stamp, to orders processed with Shopify POS?

Not at this time. As a workaround the fee could be created as a product, hidden from the store, and added to the relevant carts.

Can I add the customers’ VAT number or Fiscal Code at check out?

No. This information can be added as a note to the order, or to the customer name or address in their profile.
