Installing new themes
There are two ways to get themes for your Shopify store. You must install a theme before you can publish it on your Shopify store.
Download a theme from the Shopify Theme Store
To download a theme from the Shopify Theme Store:
If you're still in your free trial period, choose a free theme to avoid paying any charges at this time.
If you've chosen a free theme, click Install theme and continue to Step 5. If you've chosen a paid theme, you have options:
To Preview the theme, return to the Themes page of your Shopify admin and click the preview this theme button for the theme you wish to preview. For example, New Standard:
If you've chosen a paid theme, a confirmation screen displays offering you two options. To continue with your purchase, click Approve charge:
Paid themes are non-refundable.
When you've approved the payment, you need to confirm what you want to do with your new theme:
- To publish the theme on your storefront immediately, click Publish as my shop's theme. Your current published theme will become unpublished.
- To install the theme in your store without publishing it, click install as an unpublished theme. You can install a maximum of 20 themes in your store.
Upload a theme from your computer
If you have a theme on your computer that you want to install, you can upload it to your Themes page:

From the Upload A Theme dialog, click Choose File to select the
.zipfile that you want to upload.
The uploaded theme appears in the Unpublished themes section of your Themes page. You can install a maximum of 20 themes in your store. To publish the theme on your storefront immediately, click Publish theme. Your current published theme will become unpublished.
