Buying a domain through Shopify

When you buy a domain through Shopify, it is automatically configured to work with your root domain (your-store-name.myshopify.com), and one subdomain (www.your-store-name.com).

When you buy your custom domain through Shopify, the DNS settings will be configured for you. Custom domains purchased through Shopify start at $13 USD per year. Domain prices vary, so make sure that you check out the prices for the available domains.

By default, the Shopify account owner's email and information are used to purchase and renew domains.

To buy a custom domain through Shopify:

  1. Click Buy new domain in the header.

    Buy new domain
  2. In the dialog box, enter the domain name you want to buy:

    Enter domain name
  3. Each extension's price will be listed. Click Buy next to the extension that you want to buy:
    Buy domain
  4. Check Auto-renew this domain every year if you want your domain to be automatically renewed for you before it expires:
    Auto-renew
  5. After you have read the ICANN policy and Domain Registration Agreement, click Buy domain.

You will receive an email from Shopify confirming your purchase. It might take up to 48 hours to for your new domain to start working.

What's next?

After you've purchased your domain, you can select a primary domain (the domain name that customers will see in the address bar while they browse your online store).

Shopify doesn't provide email hosting, but you can set up email forwarding from the domain that you've purchased.
